I can't speak to the AG bass strings but I too bought a 4-pack of 10-46 guitar strings to try out... I still have 3 packs left .
They wouldn't intonate and were very dull sounding (even dull looking). IIRC, Simon did his string measuring test right about this same time.

FWIW, I bought a set of D'Addario short scale bass strings off ebay for $35 in OCT 2019. They will likely last me the rest of my life...
I'm not a bass player. I just have one to have one .
