Yeah, I just watched a video review on the NuTube Tube Screamer, pretty cool sounding, I've got one of the re-issue TS-9 Tube Screamers and it's all stock-standard except for the indicator Led, I swapped-out the stock Red Led for a Blue Led cause the Red Led was too dim, other than that it is all stock standard and I really like the tones I get from it, for some reason it sounds a bit more gainier than my TS-808 Tube Screamer, it also seems to have a bit more low-end too.
The NTS Technology used in the NuTube Tube Screamer is really interesting, apparently it works pretty much like a traditional tube or valve, except that the current draw is a lot less so the NuTube Tube Screamer can be powered by a 9V battery or a 9V, or 18V plugpack adaptor, while watching the video demo, I made sure that I listened closely to the sound of the pedal being demoed and to my ears it sounded very smooth and naturally tube-like, I'm definitely going to buy one once they become available in Australia.
Here's a link to a website that explains what Korg's Nu Tube Technology is and how it works:
I reckon these nifty little devices could serve as the basis for some cool diy pedals, that is, if you can buy enough of them at a fairly decent price, how about building a tube univibe pedal using Nu Tubes?, I'd certainly wouldn't mind giving it a go.
