Are you running active pickups? Or is the pre-amp to lift the output of the huge mass of magnets in the bass humbucker pick-up?

Natural is a great finish....nice with a dark toned timber fill too.

I was thinking of doing a four inline headstock with a Stingray style beak cut to the end of the paddle.

One cool kit mate.
Hi Ozzie, just running pre amp on the kit supplied humbucker and think that should sound better than if left passive for everything.

Headstock shape will be modelled on Stingray 5 string headstock so that I can keep the 4 in line and not bother with the offset G string tuner.

Not sure this body will take any timbermate to help pop the grain as Basswood is usually a quite tight fine grain species. Once I start sanding will have a closer look to see if grain filling is feasible if not an all natural finish was the plan all along.
