    Howdy

Greetings from Victoria's Yarra Valley. Just picked up a box from the post office, that should be a TL-1A , so my journey begins!

I have been messing around on guitars for about forty years, and have a dozen or so guitars of varying quality, plus a couple of basses, mandolins ukes, etc.. I like musical instruments, with the next one always being the favourite. A couple of years ago my Financial Controller decreed that 'there will be no more new guitars!'. A year or so later, the amendment 'or used guitars!' was added. I am expecting another amendment shortly.

I have pretty basic wood working skills, and not much in the way of tools. Last year I built a lap steel from a piece of my house, and that has encouraged me to take the next step. My plan is to do this as stock standard, with a very basic finish (probably shellac; I like shellac!), and maybe upgrade the hardware down the track. I've never owned a tele before, so I am excited about correcting that.

I have already learned quite a bit from visiting this forum, so that is encouraging. I will probably take this very slowly.

    And now...to open that box!

    Cheers, Gary

    Welcome Gary.

Your CFO must be related to mine as she has only recently clued in on what this GAS thing is all about and also starting to place restrictions on said forum member too.

I have one more kit to commence in the New Year but not until I have ticked off some of the items on her ever lengthening list of chores and maintenance issues around the house. Suppose that will count me out for the first month or two (hopefully?).

Hi and welcome. I hadn't thought about the possibilities of selling the used guitar market to the other half as basically a green recycling scheme until now. Thanks. I'm just doing my bit to save the planet dear!

Hey Simon, GAS = Guitar Acquisition Syndrome and in this house there is more acquisition happening than recycling. The only ones to have departed in past few years were the 2 owned by my youngest son that he retrieved recently so I can't use the recycling angle.

Currently hiding them all in 2 spare bedrooms and keep shuffling them around just to add to the confusion.

Welcome Gary, I think we all have similar spouses. Shellac is an awesome finish and a great barrier between different finishes, as most seem compatible with shellac .
Tele is a great first choice, enjoy the journey
