body stain looks great H, I reckon a black bursted edge would look cool. Colour looks pretty well identical to Ponch's JBA-4 fretless.
Just sand the glue off the neck, leakage is bound to happen. Will the neck be natural or the same colour as the body ?

I was planning neck and headstock the same as the body, but this stain gets a slight purple tint on maple which I don't think I'd be 100% happy with. I'm waiting for the maple I did with wwalnut and black over it to dry so I can have a look at it compared to the body though, so it might end up fine.

As an alternative, I'm thinking about the DT equivalent of vintage amber.

Happy for you that the Fret Board is finally done and it looks awesome. Definitely worth the effort in the end. With the CA bleed onto back of neck it comes off pretty easy with a razor blade or Stanley knife blade and if really stubborn maybe use a bit of 240 or 320 grit paper and dry sand the whole neck to keep things uniform.

Body colour looks good too. Agree that trying to get body & neck the same colour may be a challenge but if you keep experimenting with the off cuts you may come up with a brew to do the job.

Fretboard's done. Couldn't be happier with it.

Now I'm going to very carefully slice around the masking with an x-acto and remove the tape. Then onto the body stain!

I say this a lot, but there's no way I could do this without all the help from everyone here. Hopefully one day I'll be able to contribute some advice
Duuuuuude! THAT IS FREAKING EPIC! Well done man, that has some serious lustre to it, you should be immensely proud of that, especially given the issues you had early on. Great job!

Stain seemed to dry in an hour or so and had stopped smelling of anything by this morning, but I waited until just now, sanded it a little at 400, and reapplied. It's gone darker, which is great. I definitely want to do a small subtle burst on the front and back and darken the sides more, so I'll wait a couple of days and do that with dilute Black Japan.

In the mean time, the walnut > black I did on my maple offcut has come out very close to the body colour, so I'm gonna go with neck and headstock the same as the body.

Also got all the runs and bits of hardened tape off the back of the neck, but got a little bit (lol) more sanding to do there yet. It was impossible to do that while keeping the CA on the sides of the fretboard unmarked, so I'm not sure how to proceed there. I'm thinking I'll sand them back to the wood and then let the tru-oil take care of them, since I don't see how I could manage to recoat them with CA without a) wrecking the fingerboard finish and b) getting more runs down onto the wood.

2nd stain coat is dry on the body. Came out nice and dark just like I wanted. The lighting's odd in the photos, the front and back of the bass look exactly the same. 1st stain coat dry on the neck. Just gotta fix some issues up on the neck then get the second coat on that and it should match.

Still questioning whether or not to go with a small subtle black burst. Maybe on the headstock and sides of the neck too?

Edit: gotta get a little bit of stain to the very edge of the neck pocket too, because it just barely shows up a thin line of unstained wood on the bottom side.

Lookin good! TimTam brown ! ```` Stain in the neck pocket won't worry it as it's a bolt on neck, you only need worry with glue on necks as the stain or paints can interfere with the glue making good contact
