How slack have I been when I find my own build diary! I pulled this kit out today I will have to get stuck in and get this done.

Are they proper coloutone dyes Fuzzy?

They were the colortone dyes from diy guitars

From what I hear from around here they are watered down but I have never used there real deal

Yep, have to agree on the watered down closing down sale DIY stock as the Cherry Red I bought was weaker in colour than cheap red food dye and the Mahogany that I passed on to Andy also looked very weak in colour depth too.

Mind you, what you have done looks great as it has come out looking like a very aged tobacco sunburst. Plenty of shiny tops coats will breathe some life into it.

I have some of that DIY cherry red colortone lying around that I hope to use on my next build. Hopefully it goes alright.

Hi Fuzzy, on my Red J Bass had to mix the DIY Colortone Cherry with some deep red fountain pen ink to achieve the desired colour as it looked like faded food dye straight out of the bottle. So much so that I very nearly ran with the $1.50 food dye bottle I bought from woollies but was unsure if it would be colourfast hence why fountain pen ink was brought into the mix.
