    MULLETPROOF's LP-1S Project

Hello! And greetings from summery Finland. I discovered the pitbullguitars.com site couple of months ago and my eyes striked straight to LP-1S kit. Ordering was easy and shipment was quick considering that the package came from otherside of the world. Adam also answered very quickly to a email about some little modifications concerning to my order.

I started my kit last saturday and first step i did was shaping the headstock with hand powered jigsaw and dremel-a-like tool. I end up to make it as close to a Gibson shape, as my woodworkings skills allow . I'm pretty happy with the result.

Then i made exam to fit the neck to a neck pocket and it fit pretty tight and straigt. Only one thing was giving me some uncertain thought about the fitting. There is a small space between the tail end of the neck and tail end of the neck pocket. I did not do any measurements at this point, but i will do before i drill any holes to neck. One thought was if there's a slit becouse in a neck pocket there is a pyramid like platform maybe becouse to make the neck to be in right angle with the bridge and string line to a saddle. Here is somekind of sketch what i'm meaning about: CONTINUED ON NEXT POST...

Anyways... i decide to continue at this point becouse i was too exited to try my choise of finish, Scherells Schaftol (Meant to be used in wooden gunstock) I decided to use dark brown to backside of the body and neck, and amberish color for the front parts of body and neck.

My LP1 is or was exactly the same as yours, i took a sharp chisel and took away the pyramid, it hardly made any difference, I am told the adjustable bridge compensates for this, however wait till the experts respond, I'm a newbie same as you.

My other LP I haven't started as yet is a glue on neck, and that fits a lot better and lower

Hey Chrissy and thank you for the answer, actually just read your thread.

Yes, newbie too This is my second bolt-on neck kit. First one was a cheap Harley Benton SG style kit from Thomann. It turn out to be really good for a 89 euros
It was little bit easier to assemble, you just needed a screwdriver. Here's a picture of a "final product".

Anyways, back to LP-world. Im going to wait till stockoil have been dry and then do some measurements about the bridge-12th and 12th-saddle after i have installed the bridge to it's position.

Huomenta Mulletproof, welcome to the forum.
It's looks as though you have made a nice start to this LP. As far as the neck slot issue goes I'd do a couple of things:
    - remove the "Pyramid" and see what effect that has to the slot.
    - check the corners of the neck pocket and the corners of the neck itself, sometimes there can be a rough rout mark, or a slight difference in cutter diameter that can hold the neck away from the back of the pocket.
    - check your intonation lengths and see if the 12-saddle is too long, that will tell you how much extra work you need to do to fit the neck, or if you shouldn't touch the pocket at all.

From your sketch it looks like you have an overhang on the board anyway, will this cover the gap?

Hello! and thanks for all the replyes of this thread. "MULLETPROOF" was a joke we twisted from my old bands song named Bulletproof in training place one day about 10 years ago and i think that was pretty funny and i've been using it ever since for my nickname. Other was "ADOBE ALL FEAR" from Above all fear.

    So..

After Finnish midsummer Drink n' Drunk party called "Juhannus" i've been doing some more fitting and measuremenst...

Here in this picture you can see the gap irl what i was talking about in my sketch (red circle). On the other hand... neck is in my opinion in a good angle with the body right now (green quadrangle). I have done nothing about with the "pyramid" in neck pocket yet.

Here is some picture with a fake thread "string" (bridge and strin position pretty high though).

Measurements with bridge-12th and 12th-saddle were pretty much the same (325mm) each, in Low E string, Centre and High e positions all the same, so what you guys think is best way to do it. My first choise is to do nothing, and second best choise is to lower the pyramid a bit to get the neck angle and string level little closer to the humbuckers... (EDIT) Bridge adjustment pieces or screws were adjusted as front they can be when i done measuring..

    Feel free to comment.

ps. I think in these pictures colours are presented pretty close with the real life

pps. I'm considering to handle the guitar with some non colored woodwax additionally for the schaftol too... to get colours little more bright or something.
