    LP #1 Build

At DBs suggestion this is my diary for a LP build. DB is sending me a beta test of a paler version of Bondi Blue dingotone. I've sanded the front to 1200 due to the thinness of the veneer and masked the binding and waiting for dingotone to arrive. Is the masking necessary given that I'm using a stain and the binding is plastic. Secondly I've used a grain filler on part of the back which looks darker than the rest. Will this show up using the stain. Click image for larger version.

Hey Salo looks great. It saves cleaning up the binding later taping it off so worth doing. What colour is the grain filler on the back ? If a pale bondi blue is going over that I would sand a bit more of the yellow areas off or the blue stain won't "take".
The neck is looking fantastic, what stain/clear coat is on that ?

Thanks Wokka. Grain filler is your usual wood colour and the label says it's stain-able but I will sand some more. The neck has had about 6 coats of T**-Oil (I gather I'm not suppose to use that word). I use the aerosol version and it works fantastically and I bought it before I heard of PBG.

nice one Salo. You could try a sample stain over the grain filler but doubt it will be the same colour as the basswood.

Hi Andy. Padbury is a northern coastal suburb of Perth in a area generally known as Whitford.
Just a quick question, the LP-1 comes with two humbuckers, are they potted? They don't look like they are.

Hi Salo don't think the supplied LP-1 humbuckers are potted. Why do you ask?

Hi Wokka. Potting the humbuckers stops microphics and feedback.

The stock PBG chrome humbuckers definitely have wax in them, I'm not sure how well it penetrates the coils but there's at least some wax between the coils and the chrome covers. Heat them with a soldering iron and you'll soon see wax dripping out.

It's not all that easy to see, but if you look closely you can see some of the wax in the photos in this thread, where I pulled apart chrome humbuckers to swap the magnets and convert them to 4-wire (they haven't gone into the guitar yet).
    Scott.
