    Building Gavmiesters HB-4

After a MASSIVE mishap with the Gavmiesters first HB-4, I picked this beauty up last Saturday from PBG HQ.

As ever, Adam has picked out a challenge for me

This one has a very tasty Spalt top, but there are a few dings and rather troublesome areas of bog...

Anyhoo, nothing I cant deal with s sit back and enjoy the ride!

First up, a few pics of the kit as I received it.

    Now for the fun bitz...

here is a dent that would prove fatal if I tried to sand it out.

    Solution? steam the bugger out.

For this process, I need a damp rag, pipette and soldering iron set to around 100 degrees C.
First I place a drop of water on the dent and let it soak.
Then with the damp rag I start to steam the area.

After few minutes, the dent is reduced by 50%, once the surrounding areas had dried out it was reduced even more.

Now I can sand it out without ripping through the cap.

And now for the fun bit...
Ripping out those pesky speed humps!

I re radiused the finger board and back filled the slots with Timbermate.
Then a coat of thin CA glue, sand down to 220 and repeat twice.

Next I sand up through the grits to 1500.
Once I wax and polish it will shine

And now for a few cosmetic touches...

For some reason, the factory neglected to bind the ends of the neck pocket..... YUK!

    Soon fixed that.
Notice that I left the over hang on the outside of the body rather than inside the pocket.
This makes it easier to trim.

Now for an attack of anal retention...

The internal bridge support post is back just a bit to far for my liking.
Pencil shows Bridge position and the Caliper shows the edge of the support block....

Not a major drama, but one I just cannot let go
So out with a chunk of Rock Maple and form guide template thingy.

I will update as I progress.

There will NEVER be pink DT..
Pest, please load up with water and bread and head straight to the cupboard under the stairs in the naughty warehouse for daring to suggest a Dingotone in pink. Decision was unanimous except I was happy with a three day sentence in solitary, but DB has upped it to six weeks...but looks like Wokka might be joining you too!

Nah Gav, you missed out on the Overlord and GAStronomist lounges, that's where I'm stuck, although no complaining from me!

Ooh! no speed bumps, and definitely NO Concho Girl Pink in the Dingotone range...
What an awesome piece of spalted maple this HB has!
