    Thinline Tele and JM-1

    Hi All quick questions

Ordered a JM-1 kit for my eldest and a TL-TH for myself, wondering if anyone has built them and posted a build diary for these two kits in this forum? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Thanks Wokka, much appreciated been longing to build this guitar. No grand plan yet.
Trawled PB forum last night saw pics from forum member "robin" and BenWA, but can't find their build diary on site.

Hey mate I've built the jm-1. I didn't do a build diary though but I can probably drum up a few pictures if you'd like.

i built a thinline last year.

nothing too out of the ordinary, just go easy sanding the cap cos theyre pretty thin (same goes for all kits with a cap on them though as far as im aware), and the pickup holes might need making slightly larger to get them to fit

Hi Ben thanks for your advise, so this tele has a cap? its good if its the case, I thought it was just partially hollowed Basswood.
I had a look at your Thinline pic, nice finish BTW, how does it sound? did you do any mod?

thanks! i like how it turned out. yeah sorry my build thread was ages ago and i couldnt be bothered to dig it up.

it sounds nice, im so slack i still havent done the frets yet, i was just playing it with a shitty action and a load of buzz before. mines all stock apart from a recessed jack socket.
i was gonna drill it for through body stringing but i dont have a drill press. am gonna get a dingobass bone nut for it though and finally fret level the neck

as far as building advice, its mostly gonna be teh same as most screw on neck style kits from here.
the wiring isnt as easy as a strat, but its not 335 difficult. im cack at soldering and it was fine.

basically if you have any issues or queries just ask people on here, i had no experience working on guitars or building or even staining wood, but i got it done.
everyone on the forums is super helpful and can offer some excellent advice-a fantastic combined knowledge base

    Hi Ben,

All good, I reckon I will take my time building this kit. That thru body stringing that's a bloody good idea.
Is the bridge included in the kit allow you to do that? or you have to get another bridge to suit that type of stringing

    Hi Budi,
I found my build diary for the TL-1TH
    http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=2420
It does have a thin cap, not sure what timber it is but it should have some nice grain. I stained the cap with azure lagoon and it must have been a bad batch of wudtone it looks more green than blue. I found the wiring a pain when you needed to do any mods had to remove the strings and lift the pickguard on an awkward angle.
    It sounds pretty good though.
Feel free to ask any more questions Budi
