nice book matching Sam hope you can nail the gluing, that will look unreal.
I've put just about all those colours (simllar anyway) on camphor and they all look good. The lighter ones amber and golden rod won't hide the subtle lighter grain so that sounds like a good option
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

Next is softening up the edges again and carving them so they curl around the body a bit to glue them down. Avoid the compound curves as much as possible and smooth it out.

Then sand a smooth transition from the veneer to the body.

    And clean up the glue.

Tried and gave up with trying to make the veneer curl around the edges. The compound curves were too much. Veneer just isn't stretchy enough.

Reverted back to what I've seen on other veneer fronted guitar and sanded the edges to meet the body.

Not finished cleaning it up yet, but pretty happy so far.

Was considering a burst to disguise the edges, but seeing it in the sunlight like that I think I just want to stick with amber all over.

Have you though about doing a solid colour back and sides? black would be pretty nice

I did think about it, having the black stop at the edges, and also having the black come around to the front a bit to do a bit of a burst.

Not sure what I'd used to do the black, how to stain and get it completely dark. Using Wudtone Amber - and for the neck as well.

I personally find for a good black its hard to go by FW black proof tint (undiluted).
