Having just purchased a new unfinished neck with maple fretboard I wish to finish it with Tru Oil. Can I also use this product on the maple fretboard itself and if not what are the alternatives

You can use it on the fret board, but others may suggest something that is more appropriate.

Personally, I wouldn't put it on the fret board.

I'd personally avoid it on a fretboard - given its a wax type finish - I think it'll just end up gumming up strings. I think if you wanted to go for a clear coat on the fretboard, I'd look to super glue or epoxy.

Hi folks, TO on the Fret Board comes up just like a regular Fender maple fret board. Not sticky, no gumming up the strings, and less maintenance than if using lemon oil or wax.

The trick is to use it sparingly and not too many coats, and once left to cure for a couple of weeks to then go back over and sand/polish the TO off the frets by using a protector guide so that you don't sand anything but the frets. Check out my J Bass to see how it came out.
