    StewMac 000 Acoustic Build

Hi everyone! I'm finally back after close to 2 years of inactivity! Work has been real crazy but I've managed to find some free time over the weekends to build this guitar kit.

It's a 000 parlor guitar from StewMac. Torrefied spruce top with mahogany back and sides.
The kit is of high quality but it is not easy to build. Some level of woodworking experience is needed but I managed to struggle on through so far!

Do check out my video series on my youtube channel.

Oooh, acoustic kits? I shall have a shufti at this later. Because I only have 4 acoustics at the moment...

I only have 5 acoustics, one of which is a flamenco/classical. I've been looking for an 000-18 sized acoustic for a while.

I like the idea of pre-bent sides. Making up a jig and heating the sides and bending them is the main thing that puts me off even starting to think about making an acoustic.

I liked the videos. Was the background music you?

    Any major problems so far?

Can I just point out that an 000 sized guitar isn't a parlour guitar. Even the smaller 0 series Martins are bigger than a true parlour guitar

    Love the videos.
And that has nicely confirmed that I have neither the tools, the patience, nor the skill to make one so I shall happily notch it off my list.

    Looking good so far!
You were giving me some cause for worry at around the 1:40 mark on your second video. NEVER use the chisel towards your hands or body parts!! One little slip, and it's goodbye digits!! Away's work away from yourself!! Here endeth the lesson!!

It's a bit late now, but one tip I've seen on many an acoustic build is using a razor blade to scrap away the glue squeeze out. This can be time consuming, but it does give a clean finish to your work.

I'm in countdown mode myself with building my own acoustic guitar, but I'm going the whole hog attending a 2 week intensive course on the Gold Cost in September.
I've started my thread here if you're interested in taking a look at it - http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=8635

Wow, what an amazing lesson in craftsmanship.

Have to agree with one lapse of proper OHS use of a chisel.

Videos helped me understand just how much more is involved with building an acoustic.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

The music is the copyright free music that YouTube provides. They have some really talented composers.

So far no major issues with the kit. Stewmac described it as a parlor but the body shape is too big to be a true parlor. It's also not the current 000/OM shape! Probably modelled after the 000 12 fret prewar guitars.
