    Painting and clear coating

Hi I need some help from the experts. I am painting my ex-1 flat black, I am just unsure of which clear coat to use. Any ideas?

    Hi and welcome.

The clear coat to use first depends on what the paint is that you're using to paint it flat black. So the full product name or a picture of the spray can would help. It then depends on whether you want a flat, silk or gloss finish.

Hi Simon, I'm using rust-o-Leum 2x ultra cover paint+primer flat black, I'm not sure on how to post a picture. Thanks for the reply

Then I'd stick with the same range if possible. http://www.rustoleum.com/product-cat...over-2x/clear/. You may need to get it on-line as I doubt a flat clear coat would be a particularly popular paint for the average store to stock.

The data sheet says the paint in that range is an 'acrylic modified alkyd', so in theory, any acrylic or nitro clear coat should be compatible (but always best to test first on a piece of scrap wood). But if you can get the Rust-Oleum 2x spray, then I'd use that in preference to anything else.

Hey Ryan, you can post photos via the picture icon, but there is a size restriction so you will need to downsize most photos to smaller than 1500x1500 pixels. You can post a maximum of 5 pics that size in each individual post.
