Thanks.
I like black. My son has got his mind set on white.
White pearloid might be nice too.
For this go around, we are simply going to install the stuff that came with the kit.

Now back to the laser one last time to make sure the neck is lined up when it's tightened down.

Got the bridge installed with a ground...
After a couple more coats Tru-Oil on the neck and over the decal, the neck finish was done.
I had to go back and remove the finish on the frets themselves and polish again.
In retrospect, I think...
5 coats total on the neck.
An extra 2 coats on just the fingerboard. That didn't want to accept the tint as well for some reason.
Ready to apply a waterslide decal on the headstock.

Here is the oil paint I picked up at a local art store for less than $4 each; a lifetime supply for this game.

I mixed the two colors until the color you see above. It's hard to get colors...
Strange result with the Tru-Oil lifting the ink.
The Bombay ink is also water based.
Luckily, things went well for me with the KEDA dye and Tru-Oil.
3rd full strength coat of Tru-Oil went on...
Mark, I could not find any india inks that were soluble in oil; only water.
Did you find an oil-soluble ink? Or did you use the ink on the bare wood?
Thanks for the input.
Mr. KEDA responded really quickly, several times, and on the weekend.
I was not expecting that kind of support. Great guy.
Bottom line, he tested several formulas himself and says that Tru-Oil...
Thanks for the kind words. I super please with the result.
2nd coat of straight Tru-Oil went on this morning.
It's finally lost its deep thirst. A slight bit of sheen has started to build in a...

The proceedings were uneventful.
I cut the Tru-Oil 50/50 with mineral spirits and applied lightly with a piece of cloth, from the...
Thanks!
I watched a ton of videos on YouTube posted by the KEDA guy.
In one of them, he says that in order to get the dye to dissolve in an oil finish like Tung Oil or Tru-Oil, a bit of acetone is...
I did a light bit of sanding with 400 grit today in a couple of small areas (black / end grain) that had some grain raised through the soaking.
Touched those up with black, then rubbed the whole...
After letting it dry overnight, I mixed up an 8oz solution of black dye to try my hand at a burst. Simple red to black.
I started with applying the black to the edges and then rounding the edge to...
For color, I decided to use dye powder and mix my own. I used a product line from KEDA; https://www.kedadyeinc.com
I have no affiliation with them, just sharing for the sake of anyone looking to...
I've been keeping busy these last few days. It's time for an update on the process.
Started sanding with 80 grit, removing all of the tooling marks and getting the shape right.
Followed up with...
Thanks for taking the time to look that up and post it.

Well done, sir!
I must say, I especially love the neck color.
I am in the process of building a hard tail strat myself.
I have planned on mixing analine dyes as well.
Do you recall the recipe...
The bridge can be used for either a side load or through-body string up.
The through-body holes are a bit sharp where the string would break over to the saddle.
They could use a bit of rounding...
I put the body and neck on the laser again after clamping them together to confirm alignment.
Then took the same 1/4" drill bit I used to drill the body to just mark the neck.
Then drilled those 4...
