This does sadden me deeply. I'm currently on my 14th build and I believe all but the first were PB kits. If I have to look for a positive, at least the wife will be happy - I think I've run out of...

This does sadden me deeply. I'm currently on my 14th build and I believe all but the first were PB kits. If I have to look for a positive, at least the wife will be happy - I think I've run out of...
I've never really understood all the science behind the wiring, pot resistances, tone caps and how/why different components have different effects/sounds. I usually just find compatible wiring...
I built an IB-7 for my son which is the same sort of configuration. From memory, I did exactly what Trevor said. Not much room to move in the switch cavity, so it's advisable to shield the ground...
Oh, and here's a progress photo.

Alrighty, this thing is taking longer than an a new Extreme album. I've been walking past the wet-sanded but unpolished body every day for a couple of months and lacking the motivation but I finally...
I don't have any blue guitars that I've built for myself. I have a blue Ibanez S540 that's a quilted blue and I built a Pitbull Warlock style that I finished in a metallic blue but that was for my...
Restorations are fun. My boss picked up a 1979 Gibson The Paul body/neck in the US and sent over to me because I'd discussed my desire to restore an old decent guitar that needed lots of work. It...
I like that headstock design.
I always use the crappy kit strings for that alignment check. They're never going to get used once built.
I tend to go with the old manual coping saw/rasp/file method. Just grab a couple of beers and sit out on the front deck and work slowly. The slower I go, the more beer I get to drink. The first...
Basically, I generally start the thought process with "what don't I already have?" and go from there. But I think my most favourite colour combination I've done was my build #13 - thinline ST with...
Whacked together a bit of a black/white/red pattern on the face. Didn't put too much thought into it but just wanted to make sure I left a big white area to put my logo on. Since I can't print...
Performed the fine detailing with a variety of files and sanding pads. Didn't bother with a rasp as the bastard made light work of what was there.

Hacked away at it with a coping saw to get rid of the bulk of the excess.

Clear coats have been curing for a couple of weeks on the body. While waiting for that, I started working on the neck/headstock. I was considering doing something like a Kramer beak headstock shape...
Now to decide what to do about the damaged paintwork. It would be fairly easy to mask around the section and give it a couple of light sprays with the white to patch it. Or, I could just keep it...
Turns out that I do have a discrete area to test - behind the neck mount plate (I'm an idiot). Also turns out the "De-Solv-It" product is much safer (just don't rub too hard). Managed to remove all...
Tape removed. Some of the cheaper stuff has left a sticky residue. I've got some "De-Solv-it" which is used to remove that sort of stickiness but I'm hesitant to try it. It says it's safe to use...
Best of luck, Roger. Out of curiosity, where is it heading?
And now it's red. Let that sit for a bit.

Taped up and ready for the red coat. Many differences from the original, but was never going for a replica, just a tribute.

Slowly filling in the routes for the pickup mount screws so I can surface mount my pickups.

Happy days! This showed up today.

You could also have an issue with your neck angle at the pocket. It may be too shallow. That's the sort of thing you can fix with shims.
Could be any number of things or a combination of all of them. Do you have a notched straight edge? Or even a long regular straight edge? It's an easy way to see how much (if any) relief you have....
And then, the white coats. Let it dry and remove the tape. It's starting to take shape. Going to let that sit over the weekend and dry properly before I gently knock down the few furry white edges...
