Not sure if it’s still the case with these Junior kits, but the one that I built had a smaller pickup cavity to suit the kit pickup. The base plate of the pickup I swapped it out for wouldn’t fit in...
That’s a nice looking bass. I’d give one a go
Here I go again.
I've been a big fan of short scale basses for around a year or so now. Basically since I bought a Squier Bronco to mod. I love the extra thump, the light weight body, & how fun...
I like the idea of this. Looks really cool.
I've been a bit slack of late & not done too much. Probably because I strung it up too early & have been strumming on it unfinished.
I pulled the strings off last night, & took a chisel to the...
That looks awesome
Yeah, at some point I will record something & post it. I cannot make any guarantees in regards to the term "playing" though... I identify as a bass player, & these spindly little strings are still a...
Yes.. there was a bit of swearing involved.
I also made the mistake of fitting the truss rod cover before fitting the nut. As a result it is about 1/2mm off kilter. I'm also not happy with the...
After a few more weeks of oiling & wet sanding, I applied 2 last coats of tru oil & left that to cure for a couple of weeks. I have never been happy with the glossy finish of the tru oil, especially...
Great. Thanks for that, McCreed. I've just placed an order for some of the BT pads. I'll give them a go.
Looking good. That colour works well with the maple.
Looking good. That finish is looking nice & smooth. What will the polish add?
3 more coats of Tru-Oil this weekend, & cut a new pickguard today.

Thanks McCreed. Will keep this in mind. The Bear-Tex look like a better option than the Micro-Mesh ones that I already have. They look bigger & easier to handle. Thanks.
Thanks Brendan. Not sure how 800 grit would go on mine.. using 1200 grit makes me nervous of cutting through the oil & into the stain
That is a great looking bass, by the way. The natural finish...
Cheers.
Yes, it has. Shame.. they are a classic model.
New 3 ply pickguard material has arrived. I'm going to cut a new pickguard for this on the weekend.
I'm about 20 coats in to a Tru Oil finish & the oil is starting to build up. I like the way it is filling the grain & hardening up, but I'm not much of a fan of the gloss level. To me it feels a bit...
Thanks Stan & IGIAG. I'm happy how it is coming along.
That looks awesome.
It's been a week of oiling of multiple coats, cut with a bit of steel wool, & wet sanding.
Mostly happy with how the colour of the neck is coming along.

Wow.. that looks unreal.
Also interested to hear how you did the burst.
Same. Not sure how much it will add, but hoping it deepens the red a bit. This is the difference between the red stain (bottom rag), & the tinted oil (top).

Thanks man. It is very red. I've tinted the rest of my tru oil with a permanent alizarin crimson oil colour, which has tinted the oil a nice red wine colour. It should darken the colour up a touch.
Neck is going on..

That was a bit nerve wracking...
