Thanks guys, for all the tips concerning the pickups. Since getting the wiring installed was much less a hassle than I expected, I decided to go with the stock pickups first.

I always assumed that poly only adheres mechanically to the previous layer and it thus requires light sanding between coats. I thought only nitro-lacquer adheres chemically by softening the previous...

I love the depth that you achieved in the color. And the racing stripes look amazing. Great work. I'll definitely have to work on my staining and finishing process to achieve a similar effect.

So after around 25 coats of clou wipe on poly, I started level sanding and polishing the back. It is not perfect, but I can live with this.
Unfortunately, I also managed to put a Ding in the neck...

Thanks for the quick response, DarkMark. I am not sure what happened. The binding seems pretty solid, so maybe a wood layer has separated? There is not a lot of movement, not even half a mm I'd say....
