Good info on the oils. I’m going to go to a woodworking store tomorrow and check out what they have. Whatever I choose for the body should be good for the neck too?

I’m planning an oil finish for the body. I’ve used tru oil on ash and liked the result, but I’m thinking Danish oil for this one. No grain fill.
I’m not sure about the neck. I don’t think I need...
Not a Pitbull build but I do have a new project that I could use some input from you experts on. It’s a fretless 6 string bass from Warmoth. The body is walnut and the neck is canary with a pau ferro...
Nice. I'm in Arizona too!
No but I can look on Amazon to see how much they are.
I had an unfortunate mishap while installing the bridge. When drilling the screw holes I used a smaller bit first and on the last hole it snapped off. How should I go about removing it and...
So I think I'm done with the finish and ready for assembly. I sanded up to 1500, which isn't that far, but I still have a pretty glossy finish.

I am currently using Tru Oil to finish my RCA-4 and it has darkened up the finish quite a bit. I am putting it over an amber stain but I would think that it would darken raw maple without having to...
I'm getting close to doing the first level sand of the tru oil. I'll go with 1200 grit. Do I just use water for the wet sand? Should I also soak the paper for a day before sanding?
Wow that's a cool looking bass. I've never noticed this one in the shop before. Have you compared the size of the Dimarzio Model Js to the pickups it came with? On my RCA-4 the J pickup is a tad...
That's a good idea to scrape it off but I'm not sure if I will. I don't want there to be a line that you can see or feel. I like the look of the darkened binding, I just wish it matched with the pg...
Been a while since an update. I have been adding a coat or two of tru oil every day for about the last week or so. I think I'm up to about 7 coats and will be sanding for the first time soon. I...
Hey Dr, good to see another US builder here. Cool looking guitar. What are your plans for finish? Will a Gibson style nut work? Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like it could be a similar...
First coat of TO on. DO I need to wait until it's completely dry before I can do the next coat?

I used my fingers to do this first coat but I think I'll change it because I didn't like how...
Awesome, thanks guys.
I taped my fingerboard too but luckily it didn't pull off any big chunks. Only small little splinter like things.
Can I tru oil or wipe on poly over this blackwood fingerboard? I like how Rickenbacker does there's but I'm not sure how it will work with this particular fingerboard.
On a positive note the neck joint is dry and I filled the gaps with timber mate. I just need to stain it then I'll be ready for some tru oil.

Well poop, I ordered some Wilkinson tuners but they are too big for the headstock. Guess they will be going back.

Looks good. What's your plan for the finish? Since you're in the US too did yours come with a blackwood fingerboard?
And now time for gluing the neck. I sure hope I did this right.

Gluing the shim in. I don't have an after picture. It didn't come out perfectly but I think it will work well. It just shifted a tiny bit so it wasn't flush against the back of the pickup cavity....
Yea mine says water resistant.
Ok thanks, I'll pick some of that up tomorrow
I have this glue on hand. Will this be good for the gluing?

It's the right size. It was much larger but I sanded it down to correct size.
