2 coats. Minwax specifically, but I know that Fornby’s is the go-to for Tung Oil loyalists. I just had MW lying around from when I used to make bentwood rings
One super thick coat that I let dry...
Thanks dude!

Aaaaand it’s finished, need to do a few more tweaks to the setup (including taking down the skyscraper of a nut that it came with, Jesus Christ) and figure out the neckdive common with cool shaped...
If it came with soapbars I would have bought 3 by now.

Well yeah, but the pole spacing is off nonetheless.

The thing is the Model Js are the same exact size and spacing as the kit pickups.

Yeah it pokes out a bit. To-do list.

Also, yes. My apartment is a goddamn mess.

Sorry for the lack of pics but I work stupid hours and this was all done at like 4AM: wired the electronics up for the cavity, banged in the bridge ferrules, relocated the front input to the side,...

So I used a 1/4 to drill the hole into the cavity and as a guide then a 11/16 Forstner bit about 1” in and it’s nice...
Same. I’m not a big Nirvana fan but his signature bass is a huge inspiration.

Yeah that was my general feeling. Now I have an excuse to buy forstner bits! I agree about the hole depth. I was only gonna go maybe 1”-1 1/2” at most and just a small hole for the wires. That...
Hey dudes, so I have an RD-4 bass kit. The input jack is front mounted and I want to drill out the side to have the jack over there because front mounts are uggo. Any advice on what type of bit to...
2 coats of tung oil applied and the body and neck have a nice smooth finish. I might buff the neck to make it glassy smooth but it’s still got an awesome feel to it.
Time to start slapping parts...
So I decided to sand back the dye using 500 grit to smooth it off. Aaaaaaand now it’s relic’d:

It’s not thick but I can do some light machining to shorten them.

Those are perfect.
Sadly, they don’t ship to ‘Murica.

Okay so I sanded the body 120 - 250 - 325, and a quick shot of 400 on the neck. Smoooooooth!
My choice of color? Black Rit Dye!...
I seriously can’t find these things anywhere. Crazy idea: can I just put bottom ferrules on each side?

Hey riffmasters! Looking to stain my project bass a charcoal color. Not quite black, not quite grey. Any recommendations?

Hah!
She’s a Sphynx. She has a super light layer of peachfuzz on her but she’s basically nakie. The breed has retarded high metabolism so she’s actually usually quite warm. She feels like a...
I’d love to, but I’m not nearly a good enough guitar player to justify one. Plus I’m more of a bass player.
I do go 8 string when I’m feeling fancy though:

I REALLY like that color man!

Good call. I think I’ll be alright because it’s 2x2 on the headstock.
