Thanks @Frankenwashie .. if there is nothing in the rules about this why are people frowning upon it. I am proud of the work I did on both of these guitars. It was a ton of work, and a real...
Thanks man .. I was some happy with the paint myself. Pics don't do them justice. I sent him pics of my Musicman Luke 3 for reference, and he matched the metallic perfectly. They are really wicked...
Hey all:
Can someone please help me with this info. I want to replace the zero fret on my SH-1 kits with a stainless steel fret. Getting some scratchy sounds from the standard fret in there now....
Haha .. nice. I am sans headstock lol
Hey there:
Adjusting the truss rod in the SH-1 kit? Advice? Clockwise for back bow and counter for the opposite?
Thanks,
Entered in the September thread now :) .. will put my grey one in for October perhaps.
My Pagan/Spanish Gold SH-1 build. All wired and playing great. Hardware upgraded with JCustom bridge and headpiece. Love this guitar. Body painted by Orangepaint Factory in Fredericton NB,...
Hey guys:
Wondering about the size of the zero fret on the SH-1 kits, and also if there is a better material available for it? Was thinking on stainless steel for it or perhaps gold if you can...
Hey all:
Any tips on installing the bridge on my SH-1 Kit and properly centering it and lining things up would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded to a JCustom FX fixed bridge. I am reluctant to...
Advice taken :) .. will do. They look and feel great so far. Done with the tru-oil I think, so just letting them sit for a week now. Any thoughts on getting rid of the minor edge where the...
Perfect I have 1500 grit at home. 12 hours between coats? Or until it does not feel tacky anymore?
Did my first coat of tru-oil last night on one neck. Waiting for it to dry now. Found a business card shim will make the one neck nice and snug that I sanded down a bit too much. It is all coming...

Well after much headaching and learning .. I have two beautifully stained necks. Ready for some tru-oil. Could not be happier with the color. Thanks for all your tips and suggestions...

Stain came off pretty nice with some mineral spirits and steel wool. Would like to darken it up some with stain, but will it stick like last time is the question? Not sure why it is doing...
Would mineral spirits work to remove stain from the neck? and could you re-apply stain successfully after cleaning with mineral spirits? Also, is there a special type of spirits for water based...
Applied with a lint free cloth and wiped it off immediately. Got a pretty nice even coating. Was using a sponge brush, and wiping off before. Live and learn. Hope it dries even.
What is happening when the stain goes on and you cannot rub it off? This happened with the second coat on the neck I have that had the hybrid stain on it before. I actually had to sand it down to...

Beautiful color .. a bit of sanding, and then later I am thinking it is tru-oil time. Thanks guys. A little blotchiness on one neck near the top, but nothing a bit of light sanding should...
So roughing it up a bit with 220 would be a good idea before staining? I have Minwax conditioner (prep, water based) and Minwax stain water based. Then Tru-oil to finish things off.
On more question guys .. tru-oil on the rosewood fingerboard too? Or leave it as is? Both necks are currently unfinished.
Reading about it now. So I think the process will be .. water based prep, light sanding with 220 grit, apply walnut water based stain to get the right tint, light sanding, when I get the right tint,...
The tru-oil site says to use a water based stain. What does the minwax prep do? Curious. Hitting the building supply place tomorrow for sure. Excited to see these necks come to life.
Would rubbing alcohol work for raising the grain and re-sanding? Or is it worth it to do this? Would this have any effect on stain and oil application afterwards? Also is 400 grit or 600 grit too...
