Hi all
Just for future reference for those contemplating a build with binding.
This problem is not unique to guitars/luthiery. It is a known problem in fine cabinetry and furniture restoration....
Thanks Ozz.
That took great courage and inner strength!
Welcome Back.
Looking forward to the build.

I agree with the above comments.
The PBG supplied pickups are certainly adequate for getting started and maybe a lot longer!
You can always change the hardware later if you wish.
I have just...
As McCreed said, I would glue the little neck pocket wing. However, I would use epoxy and just push it into the break without removing it.
Epoxy will be just as strong in that area and less brittle...
If I were to fix that, I would do it another way.
Gluing and clamping may hold for a short while but the joint would remain with a 'parting' force at the glue line. It will fail.
I would cut a...
That is Gorgeous - simply Gorgeous!
Nuff said!

This is the second time in the last few days that I have seen a split in the same position.
My advice would be the same again and that is to reject it or at least, speak to Adam.
Filling with...
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Check the kit very carefully.
Read the other build threads on the ES-3 and check your kit for similar issues.
It is an ambitious build for a first kit but very...
Wow!
That should not happen under any circumstances.
The fact that it has split for a couple of inches, calls into question the integrity of the entire join and therefore filling would just be...
I agree with Simon.
It looks as though you got a 'Friday afternoon' kit. There are too many issues to make it a viable or enjoyable project.
The damp rag and iron trick works well for compression...
Don't worry about it. The kit is really no more complex than any other (although the wiring installation is 'interesting').
When the kit arrives, check it over very carefully - glue spots,...
Thanks Guys!
It was a challenging build, not least because I was using materials new to me.
The photos have not come out too well. It is actually polished to within an inch of its life! I will try...
Well, after having a few problems, I have finally finished the guitar.
I did think I had finished it last week but I was not happy with the thickness of the neck so in the end I bit the bullet and...
Hi and welcome back!
Great choice with the ES-1GT but I am a little biased.
My experience with the kit was mostly very positive so hopefully you will be the same.

Hi Manisk and welcome to the forum.
Top marks for jumping in at the deep end - really deep end!
Being oak it is going to be heavy as you say and with an oak neck you may suffer some neck dive...
Hi arie and welcome to the forum.
The main thing you will need is free ........ Patience!
As an engineer you probably already have a natural attention to detail.
Generally, you will need a...
Wow!
Radical.
I guess you are not keeping the quilted maple then?
Very good routing work.
I am looking forward to where this is going.
Cheers

Thanks McCreed!
It is the lighting. I can assure you that the frets are as 'gold' as the tuners and pu surrounds. I will take some more pics in due course that will show them better I hope.

Its been a while since the last update but each job has been a little one and not worth an individual update.
Current position is as follows...
Body and neck complete and bonded together...
I would not try sanding any glue spots out - it is a recipe for sand-through.
Most people on here use Goof-off. It is an Acetone based product and will dissolve the glue which you then remove with a...
Hi Chris and Welcome to the forum!
Looking forward to this build - I love the ES style.
Don't forget to ask for advice or help.

The wire I have is Jescar (USA I think).
Here is the link
Ha Ha.
No, but I have been told often enough that I have 2 left feet!
I have EVO Gold fret wire I am putting on my LP style River guitar build.
I should be fitting them by monday so I will post back here with my findings.
I paid £14.86 for 6 feet from Ebay.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I cannot comment on the reduction of the neck thickness as I have no experience with bass guitars.
Is the neck thicker because of the extra tension with 6 strings??
