A quick update on this one as well. I've put some colour coats on the Smurfcaster, and started shaping the headstock.

Hey, Greg! Welcome.
This is a bit late in the piece but I've only just jumped on the forums after a long absence.
I've just moved to Calliope in the last 9 months - great to meet someone in the...
Thanks, lads. It was literally an experiment to see what I could do with the last bit of Wudtone, and it turned out far better than I thought it would.
A bit more info:
Costing:

It's been a while, but I thought I'd resurrect this thread and update on how things are plugging along. It's been more than 9 months, I've had to move and start a new job, and get used to the new...
I was lucky enough to score the 3/4 strat for $20 at the PBG 2nd birthday sale.
Coincidentally, Mini Me has been bugging me for a guitar ever since he saw me building the spalted cap LP. He doesn't...
Does Dingotone work well on all timbers? Or are there ones that perform better than others?
Looking forward to trying it out on the next build. That "Black Stump" looks intriguing... do you have any...
Me too, Glenn. Quite chuffed to have scored the 3/4 size ST1 to build for Mini Me. The waiting is driving me nuts though...!
sorry for hijacking your thread, @thabomb. all the best with your build!
Yep, definitely. It'll be quite soon - the 3/4 strat that I scored on Sunday will be on the bench in the near future. Mini Me has already picked out a colour scheme and is giving me the hurry-up.
Hm, true.
I hadn't tried that yet. It would have made working on the bass a bit easier, but I got around that OK.
A bit of wire through the jackhole will also suffice in many cases. 8O ;) :D
I did, but there's a short or a bad solder joint somewhere. Probably my ham-fistedness at play when I put it in.
I'll get the multimeter out in the next few days and have a poke around.
A few more pics, with all the bits in the right spots.
It doesn't make any noise yet, but it's looking the business!

X plus another 4 or 5 after the sales today, by the sounds of it!
It's coming along nicely now.
The bridge is measured up and screwed in.
All the hardware and electronics are installed.
The only thing is... it's not making a noise yet. I'll have to go back...
Thanks for the kids words, guys.
Hehe it was my camera... I recorded the show so I could watch it back and identify areas for improvement.
I got some footage from the recent gig at the Gold Coast, with Yours Truly on drums.

Dat lefty... love your work, Matt.
There's hope out there for us sinister types!
This is one of those builds that makes me think of the following quote:
“Those who say it can't be done should get out of the way of those that are already doing it"
Love your work, Max!

Thanks, maxaxe. I do appreciate the beauty of the natural grain, and I think that it's great that we can achieve these sort of results without having to spend thousands on a custom jobbie.
I know...
It's been a little while since I posted last...
Here's a couple of update pics. I've put on 4 clear base coats and 2 tinted top coats so far. I'm going to applying a few more top coats this week,...
I'm keen, but I'll have to play it by ear. :) I sometimes get last minute calls for fill-in gigs, and the calendar is starting to fill up as it is.
What if we try to get something happening...
Now this is nice...
Dude did a scratchie out of a piece of 40,000 year old Kauri timber.

Sorry, Lawry, but I can't find where the ground wire goes...
Is it on one of the circuit boards, or somewhere else, like off one of the pots?
