Thanks, G-Man!
But, action set and seems pretty good. May be a bit high still but I can tweak it. That said, it plays smoothly and well. Neck feels good, smooth and fast.
Intonation was actually quite straight...
I think I have the action too low. A bit of fretbuzz but, too tired to do more on it tonight. Nut slots seem ok, and I haven’t taken much out of them (in fact, 2 passes of the file on the low e...
Pickups working and it is now together.
Going to string it and let them stretch a bit then intonate and cut nut slots during the week.
This is what it it looks like now.40651
I have sorted out most things now. Paint and finish done, cavities coppered (with some extra pieces to ground back to the control plate) and the copper shielding extended so that the bridge screws...
Ah...just reread that post, Simon. I think the control cavity and pickguard are actually quite snug, so, your idea is probably a winner.
Will let you know how I go tomorrow
Hi Simon. That’s good advice. I had thought the control plate would sort itself out but wasn’t sure where the bridge grounded to, but the metal plate at the bottom of the bridge pickup is ground, so...
Hi G-Man
I loved your build! It was great.
I am going to put shielding tape on the pickguard, for sure but, as a telecaster, the pickguard really only covers the neck pick up and the bridge,...
Cavities shielded. I have seen some folks solder a wire between the insulation in the neck cavity and the insulation in the bridge cavity to make sure that cavity is grounded and one to the control...
I have waited 3 weeks for the clear coat to cure. The instructions said 1-2 days per coat and I ended up doing 5 coats but I waited nearly 3 weeks to do the level sand and polish. This is what it...
That is some nice work, g-man. Look forward to the finished product.
3 coats of the polyurethane on. A couple of runs on the first 2 coats but I think, I have the spray gun working properly now.
This is the result so far.

Seems sparkly!
Hi Simon
I did test on a spot which will be under the backplate a week ago, to give any problems plenty of time to show up. No problems experienced
Oh. This is the clearcoat I’m using.

All good, except, I forgot, I have a handle installed and the neck pocket taped off for painting. I will have to do that later, I guess.
Clear coating of the neck should happen later this...
The topcoat is a bit uneven, where I had to sand back and respray but it looks ok.
Using a water based polyurethane clear coat with a spray gun.
This is coat number 1.

My maple neck arrived in the mail today. Good timing. Doing the clear coat on my first build, so I can clear coat the fretboard at the same time. Bonus.

So, painting is now done. You can still see the back repair but the front seems to be relatively ok.

The back was a smaller repair area but it still shows up. Mostly, it will be covered...
After a week down south, I’m back to start the repair job..well...finish, maybe.
After the drop incident, I sanded back the affected areas, put some wood filler in to bring it level, then sanded...
Just walking into the workroom and seeing the light fall on the guitar like this

Maybe this will work out.the colourshift is certainly working.
If it wasn’t for you and McCreed, some days, FW, I might have taken up knitting instead. Good advice and the occasional “I have so been there, it isn’t so bad” comments have made the setbacks seem...
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
I’ve ordered the new paint. Hopefully it will turn up during the week so I can sand back and fix it next weekend.
Having just revisited it, the damage...
While I haven’t put anything up for a while, I have been doing things. I had been waiting for some things to come in..namely, my topcoat and some retarder and the spray gun kit I ordered. The spray...
A mistake is just an opportunity to learn.
And because every guitar deserves some bling.....
