Hey Simon,
Yeh I've been packing up my house and moving across from one side of Australia to the other which has been challenging during the Pandemic. When I get all my tools set-up I'll post new...
PM me your email address and I'll give you access to my google drive with all my plans.

This may give you issues when you try to set the action. It's going to depend a bit on how much adjustment you have in the saddles and also the height of your fretwire. As you are aware, typically...
Thanks mate.
We are actually in lockdown as well so that will hold up my chair project because I need access to the table saw and bandsaw at the ACT Woodcraft Guild for the next steps. ...
Great job so far Ross. Back at the beginning of the thread when you were having burning issues and tear out it may not necessarily be something that you did, Tassie Oak/Vic Ash is renowned for that....
I've been a bit quiet lately because my focus has been on my rocking chair project.

But I've recently been working on the violin again.
I finished the arching...
Good luck mate, I haven't been very active on the forum lately but I'll follow this one with interest.

Good job on the neck carve. That's actually the bit I probably enjoy most during the build process.
Ben Crowe knows his stuff so if you can follow his instructions you should end up with a good result.

I do a neck in this order but there are multiple approaches and everyone has their own preference.
Mark up neck blank.
Truss rod slot.
Cut out and then flush rout the neck blank.
Drill tuner...
Nice job on the truss rod channel, it's a task that always seems a bit daunting but as long as you are patient it's far from the most difficult part of a build.
Forgive me if I missed it but is...
Good stuff mate. Are you making the neck as well?

Thanks Simon. Yeh I was on the fence about the fret markers for quite a while but decided that for this particular one I wanted as little as possible disrupting the Sheoak medullary rays.

All hardware now on. Time for a weigh in.

I'm still on the fence about keeping it because it's probably going to get very little use.
Yep these are my own wound pickups, very curious to hear them for the first time!

Assembly time. Need to file a small amount off the pickguard where it goes around the bridge.

I've cut the purfling channel and I'm working on the dry fit.

Don't need PUPs because once it is finished I'll already be rocking...... ba dum tss
I have painted the body and touched up the headstock. While I am waiting for the paint to harden here are a bunch of photos of another project I have on the go at the moment.
...
Like all of my projects, time seems to disappear and I haven't done much. But I have started carving the top. I roughed out the platform around the edge where the purfling will go first and then...
Off the form for the first time. It will go back onto the form when I glue the back on when I'm ready but it's much easier and safer to break the blocks free from the form prior to having a nicely...
One of the pegs. The theory is by switching them this way they clamp the whole lining not just the top edge.

Sonic, it's acrylic lacquer. So I'm thinking I might scuff just the headstock and hit it with another coat when I spray the body again.
