Welcome to the forum.
What kind of grain filler did you use?
I've seen finishes like that on mahogany on Gibson guitars that just have a natural grain filler to lighten it up a bit and then just clear coat.
They could always copy the PRS version since they beat Big G in court. ;)
Thanks G-Axe!
Absolutely. I learned my lesson the hard way! I used a walnut tinted filler on my latest project to get a slightly darker contrast and it's looking good so far. I've got it prepped very smooth for...
This is becoming a stacked Guitar of The Two-Months competition! So many awesome builds. Everyone's colour choices are looking great.
Better late than never I guess... here is the long awaited sound demo. Obligatory apology for my less than stellar playing and recording rig.

Adam is great for that. I hope the project goes well from here on in.
On to the finishing process. After giving the body and neck a good sanding to 400 grit I decided to try giving it a coat of sanding sealer before doing wipe on poly. I'm hoping that make the final...
Welcome to the forum Super Dan! Always nice to have some more Canadians on here. Good choice in your kit, an Explorer is definitely on my bucket list.
Oh now that's some advanced level trickery
I'll keep that in mind. Luckily I have such a thing in my shop.
It's been a lamination day. I superglued the (possibly) Indian silver greywood veneer to a chunk of pickguard plastic and glued the veneer onto the headstock. The one annoyance left is the jack...
You must have similar YouTube recommendations to me, I saw this one earlier today. It was an interesting watch for sure. I think the only one that really made me wonder was the string gauge myth....
Today we determine where I fall on the bold-stupid axis for this project. I got out the router and went to town on the beautiful custom veneer to do the pickguard recess. It was a scary process but I...
I should have put a warning on that one. Resistance is futile.
Out on the west coast of Canada I've got some good stuff from Artisan Wood To Works. They have a great selection of quality and unique woods for all types of guitars, plus other uses as well.
I've...
Shaping a veneer when there is binding already in place is a tricky thing. There are some gaps around the edges but I think filler should take care of it. I think it will look pretty good in the end...
Very classy build there Sonic.
Ooooff... that happened to me a couple times on my Uncle Milty build. Instead of pulling the remnants out I used a nail punch to drive them down far enough to get new screws in. You'll just have to...
Bienvenue Jean-phi. I look forward to seeing how your kit turns out.
Work on this project continues with grain filling and sanding completed on the neck.

I've been trying to think of some good ways to add a little extra to this build and dug through my...
This is a great project Richy. Following the finishing process was awesome as it kept getting better and better as I scrolled down.
That's a damn fine burst you've done there.
I love the colour on this guitar and the offset Tele look. Can't wait to see the finished product.
