Thanks Andy.
I went over it with 600 and it's much better now. The stain came off a bit, but I gave it another coat, very thin this time, and it looks a lot better. After doing the basswood body, I...

Cool. I'm in Dickson.
At the moment I'm trying to fix the neck of me Tele that I'm staining amber with Dingotone. For some reason it went a bit lumpy.
Cheers

Last coat was about week and a half.
Since this is the neck, I wasn't planning on using intensifier.
Thanks for your help.

Hi all,
I went back to my guitar and found that the Dingotone stain on the neck is not very smooth (see photo)
Should I worry? I used 0000 steel wool to smooth it a bit but I'm not sure how smooth...
Hi Matt,
Thanks for reaching out.
My son doesn't care whether it's a solid colour or not, so I was just going to go with Dingotone which seems to be the most straightforward.
I'm currently in...
First coat on the neck. Wet seems it took the stain well. We'll see how it dries.

No worries. Thanks for all the comments. It's amazing how much help you get here.

Do I have to wait 48 hours before another coat of Uluru Red or that's only when I move to the intensifier?
Thanks
First coat of Uluru Red.

Everything they say about the smell is true. Makes you want to drink the stuff.
Thanks everyone. I'll just leave the neck and headstock all amber.
I'm back from my trip, so now it's sanding time. Not much to show, but when I get to the dingotone I'll upload more pics.
From I...
Thanks Chuck. What's the purpose of the wax? Does it make it easier to remove the screws later on if I need to or is it something else?

I'm going to use Uluru red Dingotone for the body and amber for the neck. I thought that would be a good match for the gold hardware.
Yesterday I saw the...
Hi all,
After much messing around, today I starting putting things together. It took a lot longer to do the measurements and make sure everything was centred and stuff. Also it seems this kit's...
That's quite a good experience Wazkelly. I would have thought a heavy hard coat would have killed the higher frequencies rather than the low/mid ones, but hey, you live and learn.
I went to...
Thanks Corsair.
I get your point and if I was trying to put out the best guitar ever I would definitely go down that road. Another option would be to buy a cheap Squier and improve it. I can do a...
Thanks Dave.
I'm in Cooma NSW but spend quite a bit of time in Canberra.
Thanks a lot Dave. What's a good brand of acrylic aerosols? Also roughly just so that I get an idea, how long is the sanding process? I know it depends on how you receive the body, but people keep...
That looks beautiful. Do you mind giving me a rundown of your process and what products you used?
Thanks
Thanks guys.
I found this chart which is a good summary of the process with nitrocellulose. I wonder if there's a similar thing somewhere for acrylics.
Cheers

Thanks for the prompt advice.
I watched a couple of Behlen videos and the process seems a lot more involved than using something like Black Stump Dingotone. Also the price difference would be...
Hi everyone,
I'm considering building a guitar for my son and he would like a black strat.
Before I jump into the project, I'd like to find out whether this is something I can achieve as I...
Thanks guys all for the replies. This gives me a good idea of what I'm up for.

Hi all and sorry if this was asked before.
I'm building the Thinline Tele with the bigsby bridge. This guitar has a small binding. My question is how do you apply Dingotone around the binding area....
