Oh, you had to bring up the big dollop of toothpaste thing! It makes me crazy. Some people think you have to put it on like in th adverts.
Bass player in Khrangbin never changes her strings.
Wilkinson bridge is great. Whammy bar is nice and snug
Tonerider PUPs have sweet tone.

I noticed that bass strings are more expensive, but some people run the same bass strings for decades.
Hi All,
Ran into a couple of problems.
First, the strings are wearing grooves in the frets really fast! An ideas on how to remedy this?
Second, I did the fret job, then tung oiled the fret...
Maybe do a few coats of primer filler to fill the imperfections.
Isn't it amazing what shows up when you spray primer.
Photos have to be 1500x1500 and less than 1Mb. I think you can also upload to a photo server and then link to the uploaded photo. Someone else will be able to fill you in on that.
On painting, I...
Thanks TD. I am happy with the colour. I followed Phrozin's instructions on painting with cans.
Update: I sanded back the headstock to get the clear flat on top of the decal. I ended up sanding through to the decal. So now I have taken it right off and I am back to base coating. I might do...
What kit are you getting?
After the recent post from Adam offering free SixStringSupplies pots for people to try and report back on, I went to the SixStringSupplies website and orders pots (push pull volume), 5 way switch,...
....but it didn't. The wrinkles came back, although not as bad as before. Perhaps the answer is to keep spraying clear coats until it does not come back at all.
Another problem surfaced. The black...
I sprayed over the wrinkled sticker - about 5 coats of clear - and the sticker flattened out perfectly. No more wrinkles. Hopefully it will stay flat while the clear dries.
Can't believe it.
Hi Adam, after reading this thread I got on their website and bought pots, switch, wire and capacitor to upgrade to the 7 tone strat setup wiring diagram on their website.

I could either keep spraying clear coats until I have enough build up to W&D it back flat, or I could block it back, taking off the decal in the process then try again.
About 12 hours I think. Overnight. And I did not heat cure it.
Howdy folks.
Bit of a problem with the inkjet decal. I sprayed one coat of clear (auto acrylic) after I printed it so it would not run when I soaked it in water. Then I soaked it in water and...
Yep, ask plenty of questions. You can tell how knowledgeable the responder is by the number of builds in their forum lower banner/signature line. Don't listen to anything I say because not only do I...
That looks like about a 7mm gap. So if you wanted a 2mm action, you would have to add a 5mm shim under the neck, if they were parallel shims.
If you used the suggestion of a tapered shim, it would...
I have assembled the guitar, without finish and made sure the bridge is drilled in the right place. All good so far.
I made a couple of annoying mistakes - did not drill the holes for the 2...
Thanks SB. I was fishing for exactly the information you provided. I have a maple neck....well I don't, but my current build does. I will finish the fretboard with Organoil (tung oil with additives).
I use a tung oil based product called Organoil. The finish is super smooth and your hand slides up and down the neck easily. It does not stick the way it does on a full gloss finish. It is applied...

I sometimes put a bit of solder onto the tip when I start heating an object to form a thermal bridge. My theory is that if you put the tip straight onto the dry joint, the thermal conductivity will...
