thanks...aside from the spray painting...I really enjoyed the build
HI,
For the string to neck alignment issue - I would dowel the existing holes and re-drill. This is the best solution and it won't look too bad as the bridge hardware will cover the dowels. Whilst...
What is that pickup...it looks like one from a musicman bass?
Hi. I made some significant progress over the last week...So it's pretty much been completed.
Pickups - Railhammer Cleancut (a friend donated these to the cause)
Neck - 8 coats of tru-oil, 4 on...
Hi,
I had the exact same problem with my kit...the bridge stud holes were 2-3mm too close together...meaning I couldn't mount the tunomatic bridge on.
You have a couple options....you could...
I installed the stock hardware and discovered the factory had drilling the bridge post holes 2-3mm closer than they should.
I was annoyed because I did do a mock build and didn't see it!
In the...

Wet Sanded with 1200 and 2000 grit. Then some buffing with a foam pad...
I think I'll leave it at that, lest I sand through the clear.

OK thanks....So I'll need to be extremely careful then!
Hi,
I have a basswood guitar body and it is almost time to commence wet sanding of my clear coat.
However, I've read online that water can cause unpainted areas of the guitar to swell and...
16 coats...nice. No chance of sanding through that....
jealous...I always wanted a rails pickup in a tele bridge....maybe next time.
Thanks for the feedback...I've developed patience over the last 2 month due to this cold spell in Melbourne..
It's now been 6 days and it still hasn't passed the finger nail test....I'll wait at...
Total of 8 coats of clear applied...despite 2.5 days of dry time the lacquer is still soft and can be marked with a finger nail....I'll let it dry for a week and (hopefully) I can then sand back the...
I think I'll put on another can of clear (a total of 8x coats)....just to prevent me from sanding through the clear....
Is it necessary to sand between clear coats? Or can I do this at the end?
I've put 4 coats of clear on...a 400ml can....Is that enough or should I apply some more?

Love the kill switch...ie, Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead has the same...
Put another layer of paint on, this time with a "fine" masking tape. Turned out OK in the end. I just need to clean the binding up on the guitar face with a razor blade then clear coat.
I used an...
looks brilliant!
I've got some non-paper based masking tape this time which I will try...I'll also remove it after 1-2 hours as you suggest
I might as well wet sand the whole thing and respray the whole thing as...
no idea....it may have something to do with the cold weather lately....?
Painted the body a dark metallic teal green....after it was dry I removed the binding but had some bad luck with unmasking...will need to re-apply again...doh!

Thanks for the feedback..I guess dry time is dependant on your application thickness, humidity and temp...I'm in Melbourne and it's been freezing lately......
Just curious, what's everyone's view...
brilliant.
