Nice Axe, I've got a PRS McCarty neck thu, in the works( just laminated the neck Mountain ash & Tassie Blackwood), have got a 20mm walnut cap on order for it. But seeing your exposed neck thru, makes...
If it's particularly the toggle you hate, replace it with a blend pot, then you can have the same knob as your vol/tone. That leaves your push pulls for splitting phasing and parallel/series.
Well winter has hit and snow has slowed down progress, but I've made a bit of progress, body is shaped stained and sealed, neck has been final shaped and fretboard inlayed.
All measurements are spot...
Well it's been a while since my last post, been playing with my new toy an evh Wolfgang. Nice axe and my new standard of playing excellence.
Ok so here goes.
Body laminates are on, neck pocket...
Nice, it sounds like you have pretty good grasp of what your doing. You will be happy with the Martin cutaway dreadnought design. Martin designs have well and truly stood the test of time.
With your...
Just download a SG plan pdf. Then you don't have to efff around sizing it. There are sheetloads of free plans on the interwebs! Try " electric guitar Herald" I know they have an accurate SG plan...
Has the top and back been pre curved? If not you're gonna have some work making a forming dish.
Yeah, was considering a vibrola and it would be "correct" but am leaning towards trialling a stetsbar, expensive but interesting design. The standard stoptail set up and roller bridge with a Les...
Well, I've glued the laminates on front and back, precut the hatch cover on the back laminate, which was challenging without a scroll saw (next purchase). So far so good with the Tassie Oak, I'm...
Ok, got my body cut out and my Blackheart sassafras laminate joined and roughed out.
Next step is to jury rig a press to glue them up.
Hoping my 4 mm laminate will prevent any tas oak blow outs...
Ok, here's a pic of my scraper, the edge burnishing is achieved by just holding the blade edge at 45 deg against a hardened edge (I use my vice jaws) and dragging the blade with some force along it...
I use a sharp disposable scraper blade, I burnish the edge over at 45degree on the hardened edge of a vice or chisel so it forms a hooked edge, this is faster and much safer than just using the blade...
Thanks for the heads up, I'll precut the margins with a sharp marking knife, hopefully that will give me a clean cut.
Well covid lockdown and post painfully slow from WA, has finally prompted me to get started with this build.
The neck is QLD maple, I've done a scarf joint to accommodate the 14 degree head angle. 2...
Overall I like the design, but figure some break on the headstock to avoid using string retainers would be an obvious improvement!
WA post is hopeless at scanning parcels. I'm in Tassie and never had a package from pbg that has been scanned past Malaga until it hits Launceston.
Some white MoP cut a triskillion similar to the fret markers and inlayed a silver 1963 rams head shilling. MoP truss rod cover. Next one gets a more elaborate inlay as my cutting skills improve
I'd go with a linear taper 500k mini pot and a .022 orange drop. That will give you a usable tone control. If you do what many people do and use a 250k pot and .047 cap the tone will go to mud as...
Ok, Ive been slack on my diary keeping, I'd intended to show some progress photos.
But here's the headstock inlay finished, the coin is a 1963 rams head shilling. The rest is MoP. I carried the...
On that we totally disagree, someone experienced can solder to pots with minimal pot failures. But in most cases on this forum we are talking about hobby electronics experience at best! As indicated...
Soldering earth's to pot chassis is accepted method but is fraught with danger, it is so easy to fry a lot.
If your shielding it is far safer and quieter, to earth your bridge to the sheilding and...
If you are selective, you can find nice quarter sawn tas oak, at Bunnings. Alpine ash (tas oak) is superb tonewood. Flatsawn cut and laminated into a "quarter sawn" piece is also good!
Just for future reference, amine leather dyes are the favoured stains of many high end luthiers.
They are cheap, available at craft shops, concentrated and can be thinned with alcohol so it doesn't...
Hey whatever works for you.
There has been a lot of BS written on guitar wiring, other than push/pulls and active wiring nothing has really changed in 50 years.
With all audio based electronics...
