the 'cheap' one or the hi-fi one?
@wok - built a TL-1 and she's purdy, will post pics when I get a chance. Also got an IB-5 I haven't gotten to finishing yet :(
@dave - kit cars are cool too! Keen to look at it and have a chat!
Hey there, fellow kit-builders! I'm looking for anyone who might be building or modding around the Wagga Wagga area. I'm a journalist and want to do a feature story on home luthiery in the near...
something like that :)
Hey guys, want the option to put the tele into series using a single mini toggle switch, but not quite sure what to solder to what. This will be on a standard TL-1 kit.
It was a bass who belonged to the mate of a mate of a bloke who knew someone who was in the band once. By the time I got there it was lineup 3, and only one original member was left. And no-one had...
roundwound, not flats, and it works better on the e and a than the d and g. You get this layer of scum come up to the surface, which you can pour off. Now, this was done after the bass had gone for a...
Boiling strings works because you're getting rid of all the oil and gunk out of them, and that's what deadens strings. If you never touch the bass, they'll last for a long long time. When I was...
Proud R16 owner here, and would happily buy another one. It's best use is as a demo machine, a couple guitars and a drum mic and then a vocal mic and you can get pretty good full band demos going on....
Hey peeps, while I wait for my dingtone to cure I've been cleaning up the shed and found an old cigar box that was going to become a guitar. Now, everywhere I read online people talk about the neck...
Thanks DB and Stan. I was worried that I was going to waste a couple months of finish drying time, glad I'm back on track :)
Hey guys just an update, if this splotchy effect happens to you, you need to cut it back and then reapply your oil. I used 0000 steel wool and 400grit wet/dry to get the nasty looking clear coat up,...
I see the concrete block guitar on youtube, and think "yeah it's all just pickups man," and then I pick up my dad's old 70s Bob Weir Ibanez and think "holy crapballs, nitro and wood and tone and all...
DB: thanks for the offer, really appreciate that :) I'll let you know how we go
Hot and humid doesn't agree with me either :P
Thanks for the guidance Stan. Any thoughts on the poly v nitro tone...
hey DB: yep, it was probably a 40 degree day. And then two days later we had a massive storm that resulted in 100% humidity for around 24 hours. It was probably this combination that killed it.
...
Thanks Stan. I now open, pour, close. Lesson learnt ;)
If I were to look at solid colouring, maybe not this build but on another future one, do you have any recommendations there? I've read that...
Hey guys, I've been slowly working on a TL-1 in my spare time, and got the Dingotone Karajini Red kit for it. Sanded the body well down to 400 grit, made sure it was nice and smooth. Stain and...
exact same thing has happened to me on the tl-1, and it was because I was leaving the cap off :(
Thread resurrection!
Guitar Rig:
So, the Biyang Baby Boom Mad Driver is just about my favourite pedal, not least because it's cheap! Check it out here:...
I built an IKEA board long before I started my first guitar build, so the woodwork was pretty rough. It's currently in pieces as it was too big to lug around; being big I ended up putting every pedal...
Looking good mate :)
Works well, but you might want to revise the "kit includes" section, as it could read that you get tuners etc even with the no hardware option.
I threw a noiseless into the neck and a Neo into into the middle of my old beater Squier Strat.
Noiseless is really good, sounds clean and still has that single coil sound; not as good as lace...
I'll add my two cents worth here.
Towards the end of 2013 I wanted a semi hollow guitar, but couldn't afford one. I'd heard about kits, and so got a cheap ES-335 kit off of eBay. I put in as much...
Thanks guys! Keeping this build pretty vanilla as far as electronics go, but looking to further hone the woodworking skills. Will also recess the input jack with a soft curve, that's already started...
