Beautiful! The grain really pops with that pickguard and hardware. Are you thinking of using a gold bridge?

I appreciate the confidence in my abilities. Usually it's more likely to be a judgement problem ;-). Don't think depth is the problem. I drilled through to the trem cavity.
I think the hole size...
I got a "Wilkinson 52.5mm (2-1/16 inch) Vintage Style Full Block ST Guitar Tremolo Bridge Pop-In Arm 6 Screws" from Amazon. It's nicer than the kit bridge/trem, with a much heavier block, but the kit...
I am surprised that this did not get more love, since I think it's one of the best Gibson/Epiphone basses ever made. Much better balanced than the T-bird, with the same electronics. Better stop...
This video has a different purpose, but shows the three approaches to setting up a strat Bridge:

I was referring to what McCreed is suggesting. I've never done it myself. My only strat is a hard tail. But I'd probably gravitate to what McCreed says with adjustment, or using a literal small block...
I have only used dewaxed. That you can thin for sure. Not sure about the waxed. People thin the dewaxed all the time. I looked at some woodworking sites that recommend thinning waxed with alcohol....
Is there a reason you don't want to just block it? Just curious.

I have not tried this, but had a feeling something like this might work.

The solution may be to either remove your shellac...
I am not sure what to do if you have applied shellac that is too old. I can tell you how to test if it is too old... Put a drop on something hard and wait 24 hrs. If the drop does not harden the...
Steam might work on the tooth marks. Although maybe you should leave them. How many people have a bass with actual bite marks?

Maybe this is something some factories are doing. My daughter dot a Jazzmaster neck that is cut exactly that way

Using a bolt to pull the ferrule would be a great approach if the threaded ferrules were made of good quality steel. Unfortunately the kit ferrules are made with cheap pot metal, and will the...
FWIW I think it is lucky that the kit TB has a bolt-on neck so that you can shim it. It'd be much worse on a glue on...and there have been a few of those with problems too.
I have made shims from...
I can understand. It's a little nuts what vintage instruments can cost. My last build was a Precision bass, although I own a '75 Fender P-bass. Anything I do with the "genuine" Fender will damage...
That is quite the collection! Welcome. Would love to hear how you ended up choosing the tele kit to add to all those exotics ;-)
Hard to find a name that doesn't sound like something that Ninjas throw or someone in Star Wars rides. I realize this is not particular helpful, but "bantomtar" sounds like a small...something. And...
Fretted or capo'd there are no buzzes except at the first fret on the low E. Even on the low E there are no buzzes when fretted at the 2nd fret or higher. So I am thinking it's a high fret end. It's...
A file is a good idea.
I can take a better look at the saddle when I have the strings off. It looks OK with them on, and the neck appears straight enough. There is, however, a chip missing from...
That's true! In addition to the guide you found I also saw this one that calculates from the sides of the nut rather than from E string centers:

Had to cut a nut from scratch and, for once, could not just copy the old string spacing. But then I found this little gem:
Compensated String Spacing Layout Tool
You can also get it here:

I have a little more time than I thought to decide on a method. The nut blanks that I have are all 52mm wide. This is also the width of the pre-cut nut I just got from Amazon... Unfortunately, the...
Yeah, I thought from what you said above you were going to do that. A better investment if you plan to do many guitars. My investigations were to try to see the best cheap alternative.
I am about to start cutting a nut from a "raw" bone blank for my flamenco guitar. It's a lot like a classical guitar. Same basic shape, flat fingerboard, etc.* From a setup standpoint, the biggest...
She's more into Pink Floyd than I am. (Seems odd considering she's 16). I think she may like having a David Gilmour switch ;-)
With two pot Strat styles, I normally jumper across to the other side...
