Magic Marcel! That’s looking amazing.
Hi Marcel,
been watching thread and have to say your choice in stain / colour / finish is killing it..
In the photos, I see tones ranging from deep umbers through to golden ochres...oh and the black hardware so suits it.
cheers Guvna

I'll let all you guys in on the (not so) secret...
- Lightly dry sand entire surface with 320grit W/D. Damp with water, allow to dry, sand again to remove raised grain. Address glue spots ...etc...
- Initial Brown wash = 0.5g Keda Brown powder in 50ml of paint thinners. Apply until all quilt in Maple is quite visible. allow to dry. Address glue spots ...etc...
- Black layer = 100 drops Ubeaut Green Black liquid stain in 50ml water. Use to build burst pattern, add cussing and profanity to taste...allow to almost dry.
- Wash layer = Mineral turps wipe down with linen rag. Serious additional profanity and cussing required. Physical workout with 2kg hammer on surplus to requirement piece of hardwood may be beneficial. Allow to dry.
- 2nd Black layer = Same as earlier mix. Build on burst pattern. Throttle back on vocal utterances and attempt a calm and Zen level attitude. allow to dry.
- Repeat wash and Black layers as required inter-dispersed with sanding using 400gritt W/D when dry. The look when wet will only approximate final look. Cussing and profanity is optional although threats of instant conversion to charcoal after a bath in petroleum products does encourage cooperation. The use of a mental image of a Viking funeral does help here as does watching certain episodes of GoT.
- Allow to dry thoroughly.!!! Watch pivotal episodes of GoT... consider repeating earlier steps...
- When satisfied apply clear spray poly coats. 1st coat very light, normal coats thereafter...
- Take photos and post to PBG forum build diary.
- Accept and take to heart the accolades in the diary from fellow builders and take comfort in that the earlier effort was all worth it... and then knuckle down to remainder of the build...
The wiring in this is gunna be a beast to sort out !! These Dimarzio IBZ PU's both are 4 wire, plus the HSH config and I'm adding 2 push/pulls, and original kit 5way switch will be used as a regular Strat 5way switche is too deep so don't fit... Some options are open while others are impossible...Fun times...
Looks amazing, Marcel!
A little scrubbing back... a touch of sanding... a rub with a few grades of microscrub... some buffing and polishing on the 'feather wheel' .... then my arm got tired...
I think it came up okay, but I know it could be better...
You can keep going to get if flatter and shinier...
Saturday, other duties done so some more time on the IB-1Q build.... a start on the part of building a guitar that I'm more confident in doing... Two 500k pull/push controls ready for wiring up, shielding in Copper to all 3 PU holes plus control cavity. Earth wires run and soldered & tested. Output jack fitted. Bridge posts in. Neck fitted.
Headstock isn't what I intended but it is in keeping with the rest of the build and does 'match up' so to speak with the body...
Photos taken under a 'warm white' bulb so appear more Yellow than they should...
