I love the look of this finish. I believe they call it "Dog Hair" on their website of the guy who made this guitar.
does any one have any experience trying this type of thing, or any suggestions of what the process might be?

At first glance it looks like:
- ebony grain filler
- diluted green water-based dye
- clear poly

To me, it looks like grain filled ash (with a black grain filler) then possibly stained with a highly diluted mix of stain, followed by a light clear coat.
It also a tinted/translucent clear over grain filled ash. There are probably several ways (at least) to achieve this. It does look familiar though. If I can recall the product, I'll post it back here...

Great looking finish. When they do the black and white version they either paint or stain black open pore and when dry use a white grain fill and wipe off with a cloth. So could that be main colour down darker fill possibly?
