slight veneer damage - need advice

I have a quilted maple veneer that has some slight damage. I'm sure it can be made less noticeable. I'm just not sure how to do it.

Hmm, thats a shame. If it were me I'd try and make a corresponding spot on the other side, so it looks like its part of the timber book match. Then when you stain it won't look out of place.

Alternativley it's close enough to the edge to be hidden in a burst.

Making a second blemish is an interesting idea. I was thinking more about making this one less noticeable.

Any suggestions what to use?

Pencils might work. I wouldn't use anything oil based as it might react with your finishing. What about sanding it thinner in that spot?

I'm only using Tru Oil to finish. You think an oil pastel or touch-up marker might react with it?

I ordered a touch-up pen as well as assorted colors of wood filler. I'm optimistic that at least one of these will work.

Yeah, it's a shame that this happened but from what I've read of others' experiences it could be a lot worse. Since this is my first build I accepted from the start that I'd make mistakes. I'm keeping a personal record of all of the things that I'd do differently if/when I make another attempt. Maybe I'll share it when I'm done.
