Dedmans WL-1 Kustom
I'm building this at the same time as the TL-1TB Kustom , that way I have something to do while waiting on parts for the other.
So far I haven't done much other than a polish of the frets and started planning pick up surround shapes. These and the string through tail piece will be done in aluminium plate, not sure if I'll polish them or tumble finish them. Bridge will be a Schaller roller. I have started marking out the body shape mods, the tail piece will reflect the shape of the "vee" not the current layout of the ferrules.

Still not sure about the WL shapes, but the rough layout looks tasty and unique in the quintessential Dedman Studios fashion.
let me get the popcorn and settle back!

Unlike FW, I'm very sure how I feel about the WL shape (LOVE LOVE LOVE).
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this

I actually like the WL better than the Dean original. More curves, less angles. Looks like it might have better balance too. The Dean’s were very prone to neck dive.
-
This one will be even curvier before I'm finished with it
-
Looking forward to seeing it Dedafied.

initial "fendering " done. Pointy bits rounded. Now the sanding can begin

Interesting approach on such a pointy guitar... but I can see where you're going and it's going to look great.
-
Looking great so far mate!
Forgive my ignorance, but is the string thru tailpiece for added support for the strings? It will undoubtedly look very cool, just wondering it's true purpose.

Interesting shape and agree that it looks better with rounded edges.
-
yep it stops the strings digging into the wood. I could use another set of Ferrules ( those ones will be on the back) but I want to make something swish. Not unlike the ones on flying Vee's but more in keeping with the shape.

So time to get back onto this one. Spent a morning making a tail piece only to have the template shift resulting in the above stuff up. Oh well, back to it tomorrow, at least I know what i'm doing now..

Things changed.... I got sick of hold ups and decided to go with a conventional string through,1/2 way through doing the frets atm, deciding on if I should change the markers to white.
And it's NOT PINK! it's lilac , actually a 58 Oldsmobile colour. This guitar answers the question no one asked "What would happen if Fender, Dean, Dan Electro and Teisco had an orgy and there was a love child?"

I quite like the colour, but it’s a surprising colour on a Dedman guitar.
-
It'll go well with the office walls....

Done! at last, really comfortable to play. And despite what Stan says, its LILAC! not pink

Who are you and what have you done with Dedman?

I’ve not come across one of those rocket truss rod covers before, and nice to see chicken heads on another guitar.
