Fs1 first build ever
Hi there. I m alex from Greece. A month ago i ordered my first kit ever. An fs1. Unfortunately i m from greece , and i didnt considered the total cost by ordering from australia. For a 153 euro kit , i' ve paid ( including taxes and shipping cost) a total of 300 euro. I hope worths it.
A first overall impression is really good. The things i m worried the most, was some glue spots on the headstock and on the sides of he body, that despite sanding seemed to be there forever. So not sure what kind of glue was used .
Some imperfections on the binding , and the 5 piece body which was not mention on the description. Its a hollowbody and it seems rather to be filled in with scrapwood rather than been routed out.
The overall thoughs thought ,are good enough. Good flame maple top veeneer, right mesurments, very well shaped.
I ve cut the headstock to a strat style and considering to use a gibson standard humbucker set i use to have.
I used Clou water based stains for coloring. Now i m in the fifth coat of clou oil (hartol) which hopefully its close to true oil which is not available in greece and its really difficult to find similar products in the market. Considering applying two or three more coats of oil and then ready to start setting things up..

Thanks guys. Hopefully in a couple of days i m starting setting things up.
I m quite disappointed because i stained the binding and i thought that with a scraper i could remove the stain completely from there , but unfortunatelly a messy blue coloring there is now on bibding. If i had to do a clear coat on that guitar I wouldn t be happy at all. Now that i have this semi-satin finish with the distressed blue i m not that worried because it kind mathes the slightly distresses look.
Its my first build and i didnt want to spent much time on it and in details by thinking any possible failure and be as carefull i could get. Its an experiment to see how things works

You shouldn't be disappointed. After all, building a guitar is also a learning process and this implies that there will be setbacks. But there also will be happy moments and looking at what you have created so far, it makes me happy. I'm hoping that you will be happy to when you are finished ;)

You have your point Kick. I am still very happy for doing this and no matter what its a learning process as you said.

7 builds done and every one of them has turned out different from what was originally planned. It's all part of the fun of kit building.

Nice work there mate. Love all of your builds

great work man, don't feel discouraged, you should be proud with what you have done so far. im loving the look!
-
Agreed with everyone above, they usually turn out different to the plan.
You could mask the binding and spray it with an ivory white, or even a different colour?
