Hey all,
Just received my strat kit with gold hardware :)
Looking forward to doing this up.
also considering scalloping the neck and adding a phase switch.
Anyone here done either?

Nice choice of guitar!
I did scallop my bass neck (imprecision bass in my signature) above the 15th, but that was ages ago. I believe I used a half round file followed by sandpaper, the art is not scraping the frets of course!
Heres what ive done so far

Have you played a scalloped neck, I recommend you do before you get too carried away.
One of my mates has a collection of very nice guitars and one is a custom shop scalloped Strat and to be honest I really didn't like it, it was far too easy to bend notes out of tune when fretting particularly chords.
As an aside, said mate is a left handed drummer who can't play a note and has many thousands of dollars worth of right handed guitars and basses hanging on the walls of his music room :D
Yngwie Malmsteen fan?
hey all, thanks for the messages.
nah i haven't played on a scalloped fret board yet that's why i'll only do from the 15th fret
Also, i found this last night. this is something else i want to add

Just finished staining the neck and burning the design into the headstock. decided to stain the neck with a mixture of tea and coffee for an old look. what do you all suggest i do to get that clear glossy finish
Yeah man, massive Yngwie fan! and Brian May fan. Trying to incorporate both their guitar qualities into this build

I like the design there! Will you paint it and pick this out, or stain it?
Im gonna stain it, ive just stained the neck with a mixture of tea and coffee plus cinnamon and played around with soaking steel wool in vinegar. im gonna buff and polish it when its all done to get a shiny finish, but im not sure what to use for that. will probably do the same with the body
Are you leaving the headstock that shape?
If not it may be best to cut & shape it now if you plan to have a uniform stain colour all over.
On my 5th build (link in signature below) I did the chemical wash stain method you described above and it will need some top coat otherwise parts will gradually wipe off over time through natural wear & tear. If buffed straight up it will disappear before your eyes in no time at all. I used lots & lots of Tru Oil but any type of top coat should do equally as good a job to help you achieve a shiny finish.
Cheers, Waz

I get what you mean, i probably should shape that sooner rather than later. I love your builds too man

look at the colour difference haha. ive shaped the headstock more or less with a handsaw haha
I love that stressed timber look on the neck. Just some sanding to finish the headstock and it will look great!
Haha, had to look twice ;)
phase switching yes, maybe get the burns pickups down the track. never done wiring myself before

Now, that's a brutal headstock. Awesome!
Thanks Kick!

Machine heads attached. whats the measurements for putting in the string trees?
Wow that looks awesome!
I'd leave the string trees until you have some strings on, that way you can best judge how to get them equidistant between the strings.
For fore/aft adjustment I'd eyeball a pic of a standard strat

Its been a while but im still working on this build. had a little girl 4 months ago and most of my time and energy has been going towards her.
phase switches installed, have some pickups ready to be ordered
Congrats with the baby, the strat’s looking way cool.
