New Build and good to be back

Hi everyone, last September we received the devastating news that my wife Michelle was diagnosed with AML a type of leukemia and needed treament urgently.
Because we live 2 1/2 hours from the hospital we had to relocate to Melbourne.
Michelle required 3 rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. We have now moved back to Euroa after 10 months of treatment. I'm happy to say that as of this moment Michelle is in remission and it looks like the transplant has taken well but she still has a long road to recovery.
After so long without picking up any tools I need to get my guitar making mojo back. I have 5 customers orders to complete, so I need to get back into it but I need a bit of practice so...
This will be semi hollow with ply front and back, the control pod is attached using aluminium tube and it has an aluminium bar that acts as a knee support while sitting. Yeah it's a bit whacky but I need to do something that is not another strat or tele.
So if I stuff this one up it doesn't matter lol!
Its good to be back on the forum and look forward to seeing all your builds

Glad to hear about you wife. Sister in law is going through the same thing at the moment. Seeing what my brother has gone through I think you need some kind of relief. Creating guitars is as good a start as any. Especially ones of your caliber. Do you have a shop front ? I'm actually local to you and would love to see some of your stuff

AML is indeed the stuff of nightmares, and distance makes it so much harder for both patient and carer. My heartfelt best wishes to Michelle and yourself during her treatment and recovery.

No i dont have a shop front but you can contact me through my facebook page euroaguitars, and we can arrange to catch up will just depend on how my wife is doing we head back to Melbourne weekly and her blood levels are low with a virus at the moment which means no visitors but she should be right in a few weeks

Thanks everyone Michelle is doing really well, we are so lucky in Australia, I know we all complain about the healthcare system from time to time but Royal Melbourne and Peter Mac have been amazing, I'm thinking of doing a special build next year and either auctioning it off or raffling it with all the proceeds going to ward 7b Royal Melbourne Hospital. That's the ward that deals with leukemia and stemcell/bone marrow transplants. Michelle has spent approximately 8 full months there... amazing staff nurses doctor's etc and it would be great to give a little back☺

All the best for Michelle. I've got CLL, but it's holding at a steady level at the moment, well below any level requiring treatment.

@simon Thanks Simon glad to here your cll is steady and not requiring treatment, I suppose the good news is that the treatment for blood cancers is now very encouraging I have met many people over the past 10 months with many different forms of leukemia and the treatment now is so much better than it was in the past and changing at a rapid rate with many trials being undertaken. Unlike some forms of cancer it has received significant funding which has really made a difference to peoples lives.

Couple of pics of the body going well despite having a few arguments with my router table, my fault forgetting about grain direction!!! Doh! 😕

At least it’s just the hidden bits.

Thought I'd show you all a pic of the fretboard, I was going to use a neck I had in stock but decided I needed the practice on making one and that it should be a bit different considering the body shape.
The neck is European Beech and the fretboard is rustic grade Vic Ash flooring. The occlusions will be resin filled with a bit of added colour, black, white and aqua flake.

Oh dude, this is going to be amazing....really keen to see how that fretboard comes up!

Thanks Frankenwashie this is the resin infill it will be sanded and radiussed then clear coated or oiled hopefully the occlusions will look like Aussie Opals🤞

igor has been frothing at the mouth to do something funky with resins, I think you may have tipped him over the edge with this.

Does Igor need more mind-altering fumes?

@ fretworn, yes Im wondering the same thing, I will need to widen the fret slots over the resin areas as you would if it was inlayed so as not to crack the resin and seat the fret properly
