Its funny how there are trends of people building the same kits, I look forward to following your build.
If you 'reply with quote' to this comment you'll see the bit I put around your link to make the photo show in the post. You need to use the square brackets and type (img) before the link and (/img) after the link.
Ooooh, looks nice. Look forward to watching your build

Maple parquet floor sample marked up. Can’t wait for the wooed bits to get here from Pitbull
Some progress but without the kit yet. Headstock extension but may still go with stock kit and sell RIC tuners and a little practice with oil paint on some ash veneer.

Is the veneer buckling under the moister? Or is it looking that three dimensional?
Also, great work on the headstock expansion. Not sure why the kit comes with such a minimized headstock.
It’s just a test on a bit of ash veneer
Just read your question again, the veneer is a bit wavy but it does look like that if a little greenish
It takes 4 days to the UK from Oz then 8 days to be released from UK customs but will be here tomorrow. Looking forward to the build and some mega fail pics for everyone 😊
Hope you're happy with it when you get it. If the neck fit in the pocket is quite tight, just wait a few days. The changes of temp and humidity associated with air cargo travel make the wood either shrink or swell, but it sorts itself out over a few days in a stable temperature.
Yes Simon, neck is very tight. Will have to move it outwards too as RIC bridge placement requires extra 10-12mm forward towards neck as well as end of neck being almost level with body.. lots of routing to do and then there’s the headstock extension. #anxiousamateurluthier

Need to make a new pick guard too
First ever attempts at routing. Easier than I thought.

Looking good!
Got a nice blue burst on the back with Windsor & Newton Ultramarine Blue

Peg holes plugged for the extension of the headstock which I will have to achieve with hand held power tools

You've made incredible progress in the time since you got the kit.
This is looking really something special :-0
Thanks. Bloody paint takes ages to dry so things could slow right down now. Then there’s all those coats of wipe on poly.
mmmmmmm BLUE. Very nice work there mate.
Anybody ever gone to a car body spray shop for final coats of clear?
had Router slip and chipped the binding. Did the superglue and baking soda trick that is filling ok but discoloured. Any ideas?

Headstock nearly ready fo glueing together then some maple veneer

You could paint the binding white. If you do, probably best to mask it off and paint it all. I presume that you are going to gloss over the fretboard, so the lacquer will seal it all in. Any paint will need to be compatible with the lacquer.
Thanks Simon. I did think about that but did wonder if it was a kosher fix. Got a white enamel paint pen coming for fixing chips in a bathtub, could work.
Currently sandwiching maple veneers to wing pieces to match original headstock thickness then some marquetry to finish the look.
Next step neck setting.
...and more sanding
I've used Tippex before (typewriter correction fluid) to fill in gaps where binding meets.
That should do it...

Headstock constructed. Now to sand back flat and apply veneer and shape at the back near the nut

Headstock's looking good. Finger's crossed it all holds together.
Don’t say that😩
Gutsy work man! How did your key the extensions to the head, did you dowel?
No, but I think I may have to retro drill from either side as well as sandwiching front and back with veneer.
