Quite nice grain in headstock
I thought Basswood was supposed to be boring ?
It will be a shame to paint over this ...

Too late. Thats the primer done. Apparently it needs to be GOGO BLUE.... with dragons. (Dragons will be interesting and possibly a mythical beast too far !).

Decals and stickers from the internet shall be your friend for this build methinks!
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just ordered one of these for my son and I to build - such a good idea for a project. He also has very...specific requests when it comes to colour and detailing, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you deal with it
Yep ... got myself some decal paper from the internet and a load of jpegs and quite specific advice r.e. requirements from the wee one.
WOAH !....
GOGO BLUE .....
Like it !

Few more coats sprayed. Feeling pleased with colour and finish so far.

Love it! Such a great colour. I sprayed one of my DIY fuzz pedals gogo blue, and I think it's still one of my favourite spray colours. Looks great on the kit
Thats going to look really nice with the white pick guard. Its actually a really neat little kit.
Is it a 3 way switch or 5 way?
2 pick ups. 3 way switch. It does seem a nice little kit.
Dragons were requested.
Dragons delivered.
Sorted. :)

Noice and dragony, sweet little effort that. Lovely blue.
The nice folks at Rothko and Frost kindly supplied a new Decal for me after the first one turned into a Salvador Dali kind of melty droopy font when I sprayed it prior to soaking and sticking. It had never happened before ... and the only thing I could think is that I used the dregs of a spray can at it ended up a pretty wet mist.
Anyway EXCELLENT SERVICE and so far this one looks pretty good. Will do some light mists or acrylic with a new can tomorrow.

Lovin the finish after some 2000 grit and Meguiars Ultimate. Nice-n-shiney.Attachment 24936
Looking good!
Headstock decal looks good... makes me think of:

(I prefer the original version but this is much better to watch, plus has an actual valid use for a banjo)
Finished ... need to get some nice pics in the daylight tho.

Looks great! Can't wait for some glamour shots!
Looks really good
Some pics taken in the garden today.
It was a fun build. My first ever attempt at a solid colour (Gogo Blue) ... and of course the dragons.
Finished with acrylic (seemed more kiddy friendly).
Found some great Grover strap locks - which (I may be wrong) seem to be about 2/3 size of other brands ... and perfect for a 2/3 size guitar.
Finished off with a lovely pale blue and black leather strap.
I loved the way that the solid body comes up so nicely after it gets hit with 2000 grit wet and dry and Meguiars. It's like magic. Will definitely try a solid colour again.

Looks great! Apart from the dragons and the custom logo, you wouldn't be able to tell that it hadn't just been bought from a guitar store.
Thanks Simon. I am very happy with the finish. Will definitely be more confident about doing a solid colour finish next time. A good experience. Learned a lot about getting rid of runs !
Now we just see the granddaughter shredding on it.
Nice one, thats come up great.
