So I ordered a 12 stringm 24 fret SG back in May. I got it just a couple weeks ago. So far it's been a pretty fun project! Once I figure out how to post pictures of my progress, I will :)

oooh, now thats sounds like an interesting build!
Pictures need to be under 1200 pixels on their longest side.
If you aren't seeing a row of posting options for font size underlining ect and a pic and video upload button you need to go into your account settings and turn on "Standard Editing" which is right down the bottom of the page under "Miscellaneous"
Or host on imgur.com
you sign up with an email address - very easy. Imgur is a community so you can actually make your stuff public and interact with people on there - but I use it purely for hosting and keep my profile private.
Anyway, this is what your library looks like - you can also break it up into albums, but this works for me.

You can drag and drop directly onto this page from your desktop or a folder on your computer. You can do it with multiple images at the same time. or you can click 'add images' and hunt for them in the traditional way to upload.

When you click on an image in your library, this box pops up. I usually choose 'large thumbnail' (in the bottom right hand corner) for forums like this. Then click on the 'direct link' code in the boxes on the right hand side. This automatically copies the code to your clipboard.

Then come back to your Pitbul forum post and paste (Ctrl V) into your comment.
Then either side of that code you need to type (img) in front of it and (/img) behind it, but use the square brackets --> [.
(If you reply with quote to this comment, you will see what I mean re the brackets)
Then it will hotlink back to imgur and appear in your post. This also helps you get around the 5 photo limit on here. You can also post any size pic if you hot link, so you are not limited to the 1500px width or 1mb file size of the forum uploader.
ahh Thank you!
I have some resizing to do - they'll be posted soon
You shouldn't need to change the size to upload to imgur. Then you can choose what size it appears in your post when you link it. I use large thumbnail, but you might need to experiment to see what resize suits your device output. I don't think the 1200px limit applies to hot linked images.
That should be '1500' pixels for .jpg .jpeg .png and .gif files. No point making them smaller than they need to be.
Also under 1MB in size. Not normally a problem but some photos with a lot going on in them may need a higher level of compression to get them under that limit.
I'll check out imgur but for now I'll post a collage for my intro into the site and my project :) so what we have is Pit Bulls SG-1F! I ordered it to have 24 frets as I mentioned with white bound neck. I bought electronics separately. I bought one pick up for now - a Gibson 57 classic +.
So far, like Fred, I reshaped the bevels with a rasp - Pit Bulls SG's are designed after Epiphone's Korean G400's. Iused a blue dye from Keda. What I was unsure about was how the dye would on the mahogany since it's a darker wood than maple. It lightened up once it dried to match closer but I'm not sure what it'll do once I clear coat. We shall see!
Great blue. That's going to be one top heavy beast!
Nice! The Keda dies are nice colours. I didn't use them on my SG as they didn't fair too well in my UV exposure test.
But my test was very harsh and I wouldn't expect a guitar to be left in the sun as I did.
What's your plan for topcoat?

I read somewhere that there is a sealer you can put on street the Keda to protect against the UV. But i do now remember you saying that you choose another dye.
Top coat, I'm not sure - I have a cousin who offered to allow me to use his automotive lacquer. He lives about s half hour from me and does shift work so I might just use a rattle can (Watco I've heard is good). But I also want a good quality finish, so I may use what was offered. Still undecided to be honest.
Yes it will be to heavy lol. The body is a little thicker than Gibson and Epi's SG's so that should help a little. I'm using mini Grovers, and I'm gonna try the new placement of strap buttons Gibson is doing on the 2018 SG's - which is right behind the to horn instead of the way Tony Iommi's SG's are. So that should help too.
It's been awhile since my last update but as you can see, the neck has been glued on using Titebond III. I'm also going to begin bursting the top tomorrow.
I was going to try and match the tone of the blue on the mahogany to the maple by using yellow. But that didn't work... at all! The yellow might have worked if I would have started with it, but oh well - the burst should look nice!
What a brilliant blue Greggo. Thats Keda dyes then??
For future reference, just use standard red top/label Titebond for the neck join. It's more than strong enough but it can be steamed apart if necessary. Titebond III is very heatproof and waterproof and if there's something wrong with the join, then you just won't get it apart and you either have to live with it or throw it away and get a new kit. Hopefully you did a test build and checked on neck placement and scale length with respect to the bridge position and angle before you glued it all together.
Yes Andy40 - Keda! :)
Simon - I appreciate the info and I'll keep that in mind. I checked to make sure - probably not as thoroughly as I should have but it's on there now! At this point all I can do is hope I got it. if not, it's.... a rather expensive learning op.
I'm sure you'll be fine. Occasionally there have been problems with neck angle on the kits, resulting in a very high or overly low bridge height, which is why a test build with the neck clamped in place is always encouraged to make sure everything is fine and that you can make adjustments before anything is glued together. Even using the original Titebond, it's still quite an effort to get the neck off. Titebond II and III have their place in the woodworking world, especially for exterior work, but there are certainly a few instances where they are not the best product to use.
I really like what you've done so far, so here's hoping it's plain sailing all the way.
So today's update brings me to completing the Headstock. The neck is satin so I did the Headstock separately. Glossed, sanded and buffed out.
The body top has been given a black to blue fade as you can see. It's not absolutely prefect but I'm pleased with it. It took me s couple tries - first time I tried to blend the 2 together which might have worked if the blue and the black were the same product (mini wax stain vs dye). Lesson learned! Haha. So I stained the whole top black and hoped that using a disc sander would give me the effect I'm looking for and it did!
So next step is to start lacquer on the body!
Gorgeous finish. This is going to look awesome.
The Blue has a lot of "Look at me" coming through ..... definitely a good thing as it will stand out in a crowd ...
Very brave to go with the sanding back, but it's worked very well indeed. Looking great!
Great look for something you didn't expect. Nice shade of blue too.
Very nice! Love it :)
Latest update - since my last update, I lacquered it and did the wet sanding and buffing. Got a pretty nice finish - some friends on my Facebook thought it was art work on the back and not a reflection.. haha nice compliment! It's not perfect, you can see a couple imperfections on the top and dimples around some parts of the bevels - I didn't use grain filler because I couldn't find any in my city and I didn't want to order it online - I just wanted to get to it! The next build, I'll order some though! But overall I'm so far quite pleased!
Next step is to shield the cavities and put the electronics in! (Still waiting for some plastics to come in though)
MMM that is real pretty Greg, you'd have to be well pleased with that outcome. Fantastic shine you've achieved there! Great Job man!
Something I have never seen before. Had to look twice but I really think you did a great job :)
For a second I though you had painted a landscape on the back of your guitar.
nice work Greg that gloss finish is immaculate !
