Hey Guv,
I'm pretty sure I still have a Pioneer sub woofer that was gifted to me around Christmas 2015 laying around. I still haven't got around to using it in a DIY speaker cab, but if it fits your bill of parts, I'd be happy to get rid of it - it's just collecting dust.
So the details are as follows:
1. Pioneer brand, Made in Mexico.
2. 10" speaker with "VCCS - Voice Coil Cooling System" on the front.
3. 500W max. 250W nom.
4. 4 Ohm
5. model number TS-W254F
6. "Free Air Use Sub Woofer" printed on the magnet bit at the back.
pm me if it's what you're after.
Andrew.
thanks for the reply and offer Andrew,
I should've posted that I need an 8 or 16 ohm speaker for the amp
regards
Guv
No worries mate, I hope one pops up for you soon.
This one has been on eBay for ages and is 16 ohm... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VOX-VX12-...wAAOSw4GVYTeO3

Plenty of other decent ones on there lurking around the $100 dollar or under price point too.
What would be a well suited power rating for a 15/8 watt tube amp? Also should I aim for 16 or 8 ohm?
plan is for a 1 x 12 or 1 x 10 , amp has 8 - 16 outputs , been trying to compute all this new speaker jargin
Depends on what you are looking for from the speaker, if you want the speaker to stay clean regardless of what the tubes are doing you need something that will handle quite a bit more, if you want the speaker to distort a 15W speaker will eventually give you that.
Then you have to consider the cone construction and magnet type they all sound different.
Chasing tone is a bugger isn't it, somewhere I have an article on speaker types and who used what so I'll have a dig over the next few days and see if I can find it
Could be right Woks but I figured, possibly incorrectly that an AC4 was indeed 4 watts as per normal Vox product descriptions.
FWIW I have 700 watts worth of Eminence speakers in the 4x10 cab on my 100W amp ( 2x150 & 2x200 ) Alphas and Legends respectively.
That is massive headroom overkill happening there Dave.
35 years ago I used 100W Marshall Super Bass Head with 4 x 12" 25W greenback Celestions Quad Box as it was originally from I was playing guitar. Was so loud it never got anywhere near speaker distortion levels. Mostly played 'just on' somewhere near 1 and on odd occasions bumped up to 2 which had my ears ringing for the next couple of days. Due to inept PA's of that era everything was super loud.
Going to look at a used Vox 1 x 12 cab today. has a Celestion speaker inside - 25watt 16 ohm.
hoping it will sound good with my 15watt tube amp, apparently the strauss amp i got is said to be a clone of the night train 15w so it may pair up nicely 2 12ax7 and 2 EL84
might mean i dont get to DIY the cabinet but thinking it may be good value
Completed speaker cab at the right price = instant fun.
Yep, so much fun , amp and new cab sound way happy together , supersedes my old amp setup by a kilometre at least

vox night train v112nt-g2
excellent! I'm guessing its gettin noisy round your way at present?
Looks like the perfect setup.
How does it sound?
I really like it so far ,played for a few hours yesterday and was able to crank it up to around 3/4 max on both 16 an 8 watts. I think the greenback helps a lot which is way better than anything I've had previously
the guy i bought it from said it was low gain (his other equipment suggested he loves the metal sound) and not his style but i am hearing excellent gainy sounds even on suitable low volume, more so at 8 watts. playing the same old bluesy led zepp stuff I,ve always played sounds so much better, more defined with a cleaner yet crunchy gain. Clean sounds are there too.
I was a bit concerned it may have been too loud for home use, which it can be, however no issues at lower volumes for my ears.
Tried the boss gT6 in front of it just using the distortion chrous and reverb on the bright channel and can get ranges of tones beyond my dreams and ability.
anyway Mrs is going out soon so back to the evil sound den for me.....
Sounds like you are having a ton of fun. Good score on both the head and cabinet.
