Not sure if it's been suggested, but a neck with a paddle headstock and a blank body that's prerouted for electronics might be cool, just a rectangle shape or something. That way we could design and shape our own body shape.

Hey Robbo would be too many configurations of pup/control/switch cavities and you generally work that out once you know the body shape as to where they go. If you get hold of or make some templates get a router and have a crack at it yourself. I started learning scratch body builds with about $25 of pine glued together from the big green shed
Yeah I have most of the gear I would need, just probably being a bit lazy.
Now I've put together a kit I will probably try a scratch built body and buy a neck.
After a few of those I'll have a crack at a neck.
It's quite addictive and therapeutic and the minister for war and finance is on board too :)
Hey, if the minister for home affairs is on board, thumbs up, seal of approval, better start ordering for the next project.....
Wouldn't be popular enough I don't think to justify. Body blanks are easy enough to get and you could always see if Adam could throw together a package deal with everything else apart from the body
haha that's it Franky, you need more specialised tools to build a neck for routing the truss rod channel, cutting frets, bending frets to the radius, radius block for fingerboard, and of course tools to cut and clean up the fret work. Brad point drills for dot markers. Add some experience or guidance to that. I'm lucky DB has helped me build about 4 scratch necks
Shouldn't a "blank body" be called "a slab of timber"?
 ;)
It would be cool if they made semi blanks for different style bodies with the neck pocket done, controls, pickups done but then left a bunch of material after the inside horns were cut and through the rest of the body. So if it were a Strat style that you were looking to make then you could make it any way you wanted it to look like. Like turning it in to SG horns and the option to change the bottom in to a Gibson Firebird style or any other way you wanted it to be. Instead of being limited to cutting and shaping from a Strat blank. Long winded description here and I don't know if I am describing the idea well enough, so sorry lol.
I'm assuming they are talking about things like this....

that's a cool idea Fretty shape your own body around the neck pocket and cavities
If you are going to go to that extent of designing a custom body shape, why would you limit yourself to pre selected PUP and Routing layouts? You might as well just get an ST or TL kit?
Surely you'd want to specify the other stuff as well, and make it truly custom, or is that just my inner mad scientist talking?
yea, for people like me without a router that would be handy :D
Yeah those are like what I was thinking. But a neck pocket cut out would be great for me. I gave my router, the table and all the accessories to my dad when I moved down to Texas. I have to get another set up at some point after I get a metal lathe and milling machine for my shop. I am going with a CNC Fusion Kit since I am going to be using it for my Gunsmithing business that I am starting once I fully recover from back surgery. I could probably swing by my teachers shop to do the neck cut. His shop has everything! Thanks for sharing the links. I am going to look in to them. Have a great night!
Dang! Best of luck with the recovery Rick, Hopefully its not too painful a process. Look forward to seeing your build!
Thanks FrankenWashie!
