It will be in my hot little hands tomorrow!
It looks quite good actually!
The neck is very good on first inspection. I am pleased with the workmanship on that.
As far as the body goes, there is a ding near the output jack hole (which I can fill easily).
There is a weird bump in the side at the top where it seems it has been routed imperfectly. That's the only way that I can describe it. I think could sand it out normally, but the binding has also been effected as a result. I think that if I try to mess with it too much, I may damage the binding. It's annoying as I can't really pick any other faults with the body, it is really impressive. Nothing else really needs attention at all. I don't think it will require too much sanding and the quilt looks great. It even has a belly cut!
BTW, I did kinda look like that dude today Dedman! LOL
lol deddy great gifff
I look like that when ever a new kit arrives at my door :)
Pretty much the same here:D
Always wanted to see a close-up pic of the neck and body of these MM-1Q kits ever since they became available, they look nice, will have to order one for myself soon.
That looks great. Another one to add to the list. :)
Wow nice looking kit Chris. Can't wait to see some stain on the quilt
That quilt looks awesome!!
What's the plans for colour etc?
Nice one Chris, I think this is the first build of this kit on the forum!
Thanks everyone.

now that would look amazing - and great kit.
just me, but I'd go more subtle on the blend to maximize the visibility of the quilt, but awesome colour choices

Ah well, at least I tried!
The quilt is still showing through at least.
Chris
that still looks freakin great!
thats excellent thats what i ment rather than the solid black way better will be amazing when you clear it
I think it is great but it would be better if you could bring back the red in the top. When you took this picture, was the top still wet or was it dry? When still wet I think it will look different when it has completely dried.
I think you will see a somewhat 'matted' top. Hopefully you can then bring up the color some more.
I know what it is because I'm just in the same boat with my build ;)
the clear will make the red pop and darken.:D
Now that I have finished sanding the back and sides, I am having serious second thoughts about dying it black. It looks nice with the bare basswood. Hmm.
Chris
this is red dye under Tru Oil . Kick, I had to do that black bit up the middle to hide glue, you have done a much better job.

I used Goof Off and no worries.
This is my second kit and this kit seem far better in quality and workmanship especially in regards to the neck compared to my first one. I used the Goof Off as a preventative more than anything else. So far so good - no lines.
Chris
Okay, the back and sides done now.
I knocked the black bottle over in the process and lost almost all the dye in one go! Lucky for me, I had the bottle sitting in the cardboard packaging for the kit and so had minimal mess to clean up. I just through the box outside. Also lucky was the fact that I had almost finished.
So now I wait for the dye to dry and then I can start with the Tru-oil after scraping the binding. So it's all going reletively smoothly so far.

Looking really nice the TO will really bring out the dyed top

Damn, nice work!!
I would have loved to have seen the red a little more vibrant, but like others have said, it should really pop when the clear is down.
What dye have you used on the back?
Almost looks like rattle can blackboard spray.
Zandit, it's in a photo a page or 2 back. Angelus Leather Dyes. Jet Black.
I am so happy with the way it is sitting on the timber. Even after a couple of hours it still looks the same.
I stuffed up the application on the top and pulled too much black over into the centre and mixed it into the red. It came down to a series of errors with bad choices of cotton rags and mixing the 2 dyes. I also should have probably applied a thick layer of red, waited until it dried and then applied the black and blended it in. It was my bad and I stuffed it up even after watching a few videos of the experts doing it on Youtube. I am worried that if I apply more red now that it will only get even more darker. I have used some steel wool and cut back the middle a bit, so we'll see how that turns out? I could easily fix it if the laminate wasn't so thin.
The bottom line is that it won't be a vibrant red, but instead a deep red quilt shining through the black. It's a shame as the quilt was very nice on this body.
Chris
Not going to try adding some more red in the middle?
We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.
Are you going to dye the Floyd cutaway?
If/when I get around to ordering one of these kits for myself, I'm going to opt for the Flame Maple version, and maybe dye the front of the guitar body a yellow colour, or, do a blue burst, and then leave the back of the guitar it's natural colour, and then clear coat it.
By the way, looking good so far, can't wait to see it finished.
