Okay I've convinced my wife to join forces for a build for her. :D
We are looking for ideas for the build as the colours she prefers do not "gel" with me and i am trying to get around that with some ideas that might work. As its her build I thought she could join the forum and talk directly to you guys.:p
We really need some ideas on which build to do and what colour or colour scheme.:confused:

Hi its Joanne40 here, just waiting for my registration to be activated.
I'm trying to find the right type of guitar to build that will go with the colour or colour scheme i have in mind.
I really like something in a silver colour or silver burst (but no glitter or sparkle). I was looking at a tele or strat as the size and shape suits me best (I am an absolute beginner) but the colours seem to clash with the tele style. I don't want a solid block colour, I want it to have some character. The burst seems to look better on a strat (not a LP).
I didn't mind the tele bigsby kit, I think it looks pretty neat!
Was really looking for some inspiration. Andy is struggling to get inspired by my tastes, but I love the work he has done on his other guitars and want to channel that.
I know you guys are full of ideas, so any thoughts would be welcome!?
Hi Andy & Joanne, a couple of left field ideas come to mind.....how about a Firebird or maybe the JM-1? Looks quite an easy kit to do.
In relation to doing a silver burst here are some that might provide some inspiration?

And I am in! I can't believe Andy has managed to bring me into his world, but here I am. I love the work he does and the community you guys have. Thanks Wazkelly for the ideas. I don't mind the Firebird at all! I love the silver burst, it certainly inspires me :)
Hi Joanne, FB-1M has a bolt on neck so that makes things a whole lot easier first time around. Funky shape but really comfortable to play and not as aggressive or pointy looking as the Explorer of which I have a couple of.
For the silver burst those shots look like solid colours and hopefully Andy can provide a bit of guidance there too.
Good to see a husband and wife combo involved.

I am with Wazza on this, I have a silverburst Thunderbird in my extensive collection of low end beasts...
The Firebird is my all time fave Gibson guitar, love the way those babies growl.
I must say, I hadn't thought about a Firebird build......starting to feel the jealously :D

Keep in mind that this maybe your first build (probably not your last) and many joyful hours will be spent sanding with your husband, measuring heat and humidity levels and umming and ahhhing about colours, styles and pickup choices, however, at the end you will have a treasure to call your own that will bring a lifetime of pride and playing joy.
It will be your guitar, so really, you can do anything you like.
Having said that...Your choice of music style can influence your choice too. Country music on an SG is just ridiculous.
If you like to rock it, go for the Firebird. Great choice!
Or maybe a JR-1MDC kit. Lovely symmetry to these.

Hi ILR, I am abeginner player and builder! It just feels like the right time. I have been inspired by the builds and promised Andy if he built a guitar for me I would learn to play it. We couldn't agree on the build so I figured I would build my own!
I have chosen a guitar and Andy ordered it this morning and it is already on it's way! I am starting with an ST-1. I think it will take me where I want to go to start with.

P.S I might try a firebird once I have a bit of skill playing :cool: I do think they look way cool and wold love to be able to make one growl
Hi Joanne welcome to the forum, I missed this thread. Wow your attitude has changed for the better, Andy used to sweat and sweat whether he was allowed to hang a guitar in the house !
ST-1 great kit to start on, think that was Andy's first kit ?
You have a great mentor and coach to guide you to build you a cool axe, best of luck.

Welcome Joanne, awesome to have another woman on the forum.
There are lots of great choices here. The tele is an awesome guitar and a perfect first build, i also think it lends itself to some of the more quirkier and rustic finishes, and a silver burst might look better than you think on it.
Either way, enjoy the fun of choosing and the build

Hi Joanne, good choice as you can learn and encounter all those beginner oops moments on a kit that is easy to build and maybe then move on to the Firebird for your next one.....as I am sure there will be more than one.....says me who just ordered build # 6 last night

I am finally getting around to starting my build diary. I am on holidays now so hopefully will make quite a bit of progress this week. Thanks for the support guys, it really gives my inspiration to get on with it.
