ES-2V Semi-Hollow
Hi DB,
Just having an idea for my next build...I'm wanting a semi hollow body and I like the look of the ES-2V but I don't like the wooden bridge. So...
My idea is to replace it with a standard LP bridge and saddle set up.
Do you think this is possible? Are there any hidden problems like veneer lifting, brace interference, etc.
Thanks mate

Hey ILR guitars, I would find a build diary from this model and ask them to see how big the support block is under the bridge. If its wide enough for a TOM bridge you may be ok. I very much doubt the block will be big enough for a bridge and tailpiece setup so you may have to look at a wrap around TOM bridge.
I think Dedman has almost finished a ES-2V build
EDIT I just had a look at the kit photos and it already has the tailpiece bush holes drilled. All you need to know is how wide the block is under the bridge area

The only conceivable problem I can see is with the block under the saddle location.
As long as it is big enough to handle the posts it will work.
Sorry I cant give a more detailed answer as I don't have one here to have a look at.
Perhaps one of the forum peeps that has built one can have a look and give us an answer?

Genius Wokka. Gav Turner also did a great kit too. Questions have been sent away...will keep you guys informed
-
no worries ILR, I was going to mention Gav T but it may be binned after his electrical soot problem in his man cave
-
from what I can see the centre block goes right through, but of course ...my inspection mirror has slipped into that void of things you need but aren't there.
-
haha good on you for looking Dedman. Always happens when you need a tool it has gone missing down the man cave black hole !
-
Well, we might be in luck boys. Thanks Dedman for the info. Gav's diary build has alot of good info there too.

You're a legend Gav. Keep going mate!!

so what is your verdict IRL, are you going to order one ? I think chances are pretty high the centre block should be a constant width to the back of the bridge pup cavity
-
Verdict? Gotta put it before Her Worship the Chief Justice before I get a verdict!! ha ha.
But it's on the cards.
-
haha no worries ILR, always the case !

I think its going to push my Jnr off "fav kit to play" pedestal. So light compared to a solid LP or even a tele. Been doing a little bit of work on mine this week. Should be ready for clear coats and wiring next week :D
-
Curse this Sydney weather! Haven't been able to touch my build for 2 weeks.
-
been like that here, too hot and humid

So I made a choice. I found an ES335 kit online. Gold hardware, trapeze bridge, flame maple top, etc. All I wanted. A diary will follow after I finish some odd jobs on the other girls.
