Hi DB,

There are quite a few to choose from.
Tassie Blackwood is one of my faves for bodies and necks.
Queensland Maple is stunning for bodies and drop tops, but so is the price......
Black Sassafras, She Oak, Silver Wattle, Myrtle Burl, Birds Eye Jarrah burl are all very noice for tops.
Gidgee, Bonari, Beef heart and figured Eucalyptus are great for fingerboards.
Thats just a few....
Thanks DB
I see Camphor laurel around a bit for bodies. Is it a good wood for Lutherie
Have some Qld maple tops and trying to match a good body wood that will compliment.
Never used Camphor Laurel. Works well for furniture so no reason why you couldnt use it for a Guitar body.
Only thing I would be worried about is due to it being a fairly oily timber, glueing may be a challenge but there should be a workaround if it is.
That would be a good question to ask a cabinet maker I guess.
Otherwise, it would be a nice contrast to the QLD Maple and a bonus is termites wont eat your Guitar :D
I'm currently finishing up a bass made from reclaimed Australian hardwood. Brushbox for the body and neck, and Ironbark for the fret board.
No idea how it sounds compared to other woods - I'm a bit of a pleb when it comes to tone. Sounds OK to me so far.

Great build mjg, really unique approach!
That looks sweet!
great design!
Really nice I love the shape
Sent from Lineage OS 14.1
That is wicked. Love the curves.
Thanks!
Spent a fun afternoon with my 9 year old drawing random guitar shapes on cardboard... then my wife picked her favourite and sketched out the final shape.
Anyway, staying on topic - I'm finding the Ironbark looks awesome as a fret board - got that for free from a local timber recycler (in Canberra). I bought the body pieces and he threw in the fret board as it was some random old floorboard that he didn't think he could sell. He even thinned it down for free. The iron bark has a nice wavy pattern going up the board.
For reference, the brush box body and neck was about $80 or $90 I think. It had been a support beam in a warehouse, then demolished, nail detected, cut, dressed, etc.
You've even added the Great Australian Bite at the bottom of your body shape mjg ;)! True blue build
Very, very nice. This should end up looking awesome.
A few more photos of the wood I'm using... this is after a coat of oil.

That's lovely mjg! The Brushbox in particular.
Who's the timber recycler you went to in Canberra?
The place I got the timber is called Thor's Hammer. At the old brickworks in Yarralumla.
Thanks. They have some lovely stuff there!
