Might be best to test it on something first to see how it goes after about 40 years since it was last opened.
I'll definitely give it the scrap timber test, probably won't even use it here. not sure how blue would look on an SG

Depending on how dark it is you could use blue on almost anything and if it needs to be darker just add small amounts of black until you achieve the desired shade.

I know how you feel as it can take a bit of searching to find things if there hasn't been a post for quite some time.

Yes, lots of sanding. Nice headstock shape. But it certainly needs some more sanding!

love the headstock shape Fuzz looks unreal. If you don't like sanding then kit guitars aren't your cup of tea haha

Maybe you could let her pick out which kit she would like to do, you sand it up to finishing stage and let her take over from there?
She would pick the gr-1sf for sure. Whenever I am flicking through guitar porn and I get stopped by her to look at a 'pretty' guitar it is always a gretsch.
