New Member - New to Guitar Building

Hi All

I have just been given a LP-1MQ for a 70th Birthday present to my great surprise. I am a keen club sailor and the story has always been "you either sail a yacht or build one". I thought the same applied to the guitar which I have been playing for 7 years as part of my second (maybe third) childhood. But I think I was wrong about the guitar building. I am getting very excited about this project. I am not entirely new to the skills required so happy to give it ago. I have been checking the web site and you guys are sure doing wonderful projects and the help is phenomenal. I will be back soon with plenty of questions I am sure.

If you have done any boat building or repair work those skills will come in very handy for what you are about to embark on. Plenty of help to answer most questions is never too far away on this forum and look forward to seeing how yours comes along.

Welcome to your new addiction. It's OK to make a list of future builds :D

Or draw pictures of some guitar kit fantasy...

Welcome to the site.
One word of warning, take it easy when sanding that quilted veneer. They are extremely thin and you can sand right through it if you are not careful.
Other than that, enjoy the build!

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and comforting advice. I spend last night on the web looking at the videos that raised many question which will be on here over the next 6 months by the look of it.

Take your time buddy, it's not a race, and you will end up with a damn fine instrument that you can be proud of calling your own.
